PLAYER NOTES |
||||||||||
Fraser has been better with attendance the last two seasons, but his numbers have not been great. He did tie his career high in walks last year (9) which did allow him to have a good on base % year at 0.544 OBP. Despite only playing 10 games in 2021 it looked like Fraser was starting to figure things out at the plate. Unfortunately, his last two years have been his 4th and 5th worst seasons in his career. I do know Fraser is the type of guy who doesn’t like to suck for long so I wouldn’t doubt he tries hard to get out of the basement this year. The good news is that his defense has really improved, and he took him his 2nd Gold Glove in the last 5 years. |

PLAYER NOTES |
||||||||||
Coach Ploen enters his 19th season and apparently has figured out how to hit. After only 1 season out of 14 in which he batted above .500 (2010 – 0.525) he has rattled off three 0.500+ seasons and now looks like a very reliable and confidence player in the box. Ploen will always struggle with attendance due to his downtown living but if he can contribute numbers like these when he does show up, I doubt anyone will complain. Ploen enters the 2024 season a bit beat up unfortunately and will probably take the first month off all together. Hopefully the injury doesn’t linger, and we can get back to see Mr. Automatic at the plate. |

PLAYER NOTES |
||||||||||
Rob enters his 19th season with the Goobers and he is another member of the better late than never club. Rob has hit .500 over his last two seasons which is the first time in his entire career he has put together a .500 avg combined in back-to-back seasons. Another positive is his OBP, which he has posted his best and 4th best seasons in that category the last two years. Rob has really started working on his opposite field swing and it seems to be paying off as he is consistently putting good contact on the ball and even his outs have been good outs. Rob also played 31 games last year which was his highest total since 2014. Looking forward to 2024 Cabo Robo! |

PLAYER NOTES |
||||||||||
Kevin came off an injury plagued 2022 in which he had his first sub .300avg season in his career. He bounced back a bit hiting .424 in 2023 but is still not near his career average. Injuries once again are a factor unfortunately as he has already stated he wont be able to play much outfield to begin the season. The hope is that Krob can return to a middle of the order hitter with a bit of pop. The outfield is also getting slim with the news that Adam and Ploen will be out to start the year so a speedy recovery for Krob is needed. His 28 runs in 2023 were his highest since 2014 so there Is hope he can get back to being one of the better producers in the Goobers lineup in 2024. |

Bobby enters 2024 as the team leader in pretty much every category but his power numbers have pretty all but fallen off from the hitter he once was. He did have his best batting average year since 2016 but also hasn’t had an OPS above 1.900 since 2016. Nothing really has changed in the offseason for him so expect him once again to be a good one base guy but not delivering much in the power numbers department. The defense has also taken a hit since starting to play hardball again (last year of hardball I promise) so hopefully he can figure out a way to become a gold glove fielder again as the team really needs his leadership in the field as much as at the plate. |

Adam enters his anniversary 10th year with the Goobers and unfortunately it comes after his worst statistical season in his Goobers career. If this didn’t add insult to injury Adam will now be opening the 2024 season on the IL and an expected return date for him is currently undecided. Adam is one of our best defenders and has been our #1 outfielder for many years now. The loss of him in the field will be greatly felt but I know even Adam at the plate can come up clutch when needed. Adam started his career with 4 straight 40+ RBI seasons and hasn’t been able to crack the 35 RBI mark since 2017. We are hoping Adam makes a speedy recovery and can return to the lineup as he is still a very big piece of this lineup and his bat will one day heat up again. |

PLAYER NOTES |
||||||||||
Steve enters his 17th season with the Goobers and used to be one of the most reliable players on the team consistently playing over 30 games per season. Unfortunately, since 2017 he has failed to crack the 20-game mark. This has really shown in his stats as well as he has hit just .388 in his past 4 years after having a career batting average above 0.450. I doubt the attendance numbers will change in 2024 but he has been better at bringing pizza when he does show up so there are still positives with the new Rocha. Still, we miss Steve and would love to see him come out more. He was always a consistent pitcher and third baseman for us and when on his bat is a solid middle of the lineup stick. The good news is he is showing up for week 1 and you cant have perfect attendance if you miss week 1! |

Big Mac, McWheels, The Real Deal, the man has several names. Ryan enters his 15th season with the Goobers and has been everything that he was advertised as. One of the most feared hitters in the league if not the most feared, Ryan has one of the most unorthodox swing motions in the game but makes it work consistently. Ryan put up a career year in 2023 posting an impressive 0.725avg which would lead the Goobers and win him his team leading 5th Silver Slugger Award. The attendance was looking to be an issue, but he still managed to make it out to 27 games in 2023 and all signs point to him being a regular in the lineup in 2024. Ryan will take his place as the teams #3 hitter and will once again look to improve on his game even though 2024 was very much a breakout for him. Anything north of 0.650 is a solid year with the power numbers he also puts up. The move to more Brickyard games this year will cut into his homer numbers but the doubles and triples should skyrocket. |

Bobo is technically still entering his 19th season with the Goobers this year despite only being a cameo appearance in 2022 and 2023 playing his token 2 games. The issue is that Brian has really became a reliable hitter at the plate and now we only get him for one week a year. His last 28 games have him batting a silly 0.642 for a guy whose career average used to be one of the worst on the team entering 2016. Since then, he has hit 0.554 and become a top 6 batter on the team. If we only got this production from him during our championship runs, we probably would have been asked to find another league with how good we were. We miss you Bobo! |

Vinny Blarmo, Dan Varino, or simply Vierno. All of these aren’t his name, yet we love him for letting us call him this! Mike Vieira enters his 9th season with the Goobers but really the last 2 seasons were full time. The stats haven’t been what we expected but there is promise with Vierno. He has a good swing and makes loud contact but the flyouts are a killer. I would love to see the day he tries to hit opposite field. His glove has its ups and downs and I do feel him moving around the field will help his defensive game. The bat needs to wake up however as me and him both know the talent is there but its just not being put all together too well. Hopefully 2024 is the year of Vinny and we wont hear the end of it! |

PLAYER NOTES |

Ariah enters his 9th year with the team and has really turned into a great ball player. He has raised his batting average in 3 of his last 4 seasons with the only season he didn’t still being a respectable 0.558avg. The attendance took a dip the past two seasons however and despite still putting up solid numbers the overall totals were much lower than we would have hoped. 2024 will be a better year for Ariah we hope as he is a key component to the top of the Goobers lineup. When we can get Ariah, Josh, Ryan on base every time they are up good things will happen with the RBI producers behind them. Ariah will also be asked to play more outfield this year despite being a two-time gold glove third baseman. Unfortunately, injuries have piled up and he is needed in other areas of the field and I have no doubt he can pull down another gold glove away from the hot corner. |

Josh enters his 19th year with the Goobers and has seen his numbers take a dip in the past 5 years. Outside of 2021 where he had a career year (despite only playing 11 games) he has had batting averages below his career average in 4 of the 5 years. Josh is the best all around player on the team and what he brings to the defensive side of the game cannot be matched. By far one of the best ever shortstops to play in the MMSPL, Josh used to also be the best LCF to ever play in the MMSPL. Even if the bat isn’t up to par the glove and arm are at an elite level. Here is hoping that 2024 Josh can get back to being a force both at the plate and in the field. |

JP enters his 6th season with the Goobers and has been on a bit of a skid the last two years. Knowing JP for most of my ball playing career we both know he can bat better than a .500 hitter and surely should flirt more with .600 than he does with .500. The power numbers also took a hit like many did in 2023 but the batting average drop was not in the cards. The versatility JP brings to the defensive side of the game really helps as he can pretty much play all over the field with success. I have no doubts that 2024 will be a bounce back year for #42 and hopefully he can make his way back into the Silver/Bronze Slugger conversations. |

Fran Van enters his 5th season with the Goobers even though it still looks like he is a callup based on his games played numbers. Franny was an OG Goober and is one of the founding fathers of this great organization. Franny played for the Kelly Goobers up until their dissolvement during Covid and was a pretty reliable bottom of the order batter. Unfortunately, he hasn’t translated that sweet swing over to the Goobers and I hope that’s not a reason for him not showing up. He is one of the nicest people we know, and we hope to see Franny more often in 2024. If there was ever an attribute for team spirit Franny would be maxed out in that department and he brings a light heartedness to the team that is very much needed at times. |

Jimmy McNeil burst out on to the scene in 2021 during a covid shortened year in which he took home the Silver Slugger award and looked to be the best new addition to the Goobers since the Kelly Goobers folded. Unfortunately, that feeling was short lived as he has only made it out to 13 games the past two seasons. Jimmy is a solid 2-way player who can play all over the field and mixes power contact and speed at the plate. 2024 doesn’t look to be a better attendance year for the McNeil brother but hopefully the games he does show up to her makes a big impact. If we could get him every other week the promise of a playoff worthy season for the Goobers is expected. |

Big Jon Boodhoo broke out last season batting 0.556 with an amazing 0.643 OBP. The expectations for 2024 are now very high but really I don’t see much changing for the smooth swinging Boods. He looks to have finally figured out the perfect swing for his line drives over the infield. Another good add was his impressive defensive skills last year and I hope this continues this season. Off the hop defensive positions will be a little out of whack with all the injuries we have but Jon will be used often at 1B. With this being his 3rd season with the Goobers I hope he is getting more comfortable at the plate and in the field. Despite the surge in batting he still remains as the teams best last batter and a great guy to roll the lineup up to the big sticks. |

The Big KG enters his 6th season with the Goobers even though his first two were just in a callup capacity. With 3 full seasons under his belt Kyle has gone in the wrong direction statistically but there is still promise as Kyle has a great swing for slo-pitch. His batting average dropping below .500 was concerning but he did still post a +1.200 OPS which ranks him in the top half of the Goobers hitters. Attendance issues last season also contributed to his lack of success so hopefully 2024 is the year Gerrard finally breaks out into a hitter who can flirt with a .600 batting average. The defense has always been solid despite getting slower and his arm having less and less of a cannon. However with Adam out for the first part of the season Kyle will be heavily relied upon to take over the reigns in the middle of the outfield and hopefully find an extra gear when going for balls in the gap. |
