Litchfield Loses On Walk-Off To Northwestern

The Cowboys fell to the Highlanders 8-7 on Friday on the final play of the game. The game was tied at seven in the bottom of the seventh when Crone doubled, scoring one run.

The Highlanders were the first to get on the board when Martocchio doubled in the first, scoring one.

Northwestern added one run in the third. Crone grounded out, making the score 2-0.

The Cowboys tied the game in the top of the fifth thanks to a single by Jack Gollow, and a wild pitch.

In the bottom of the sixth, Northwestern broke up the tie when Ayers singled, scoring two runs. They tacked on another to make it 7-4.

Gus Worden doubled on the sixth pitch of his at-bat in the seventh to tie the game 7-7.

Chuck Pickert started on the hill for the Cowboys. He gave up five hits and four runs (three earned) over four innings, striking out two and walking four. Martocchio led things off for the Highlanders. He allowed three hits and five runs (three earned) over six innings of work, striking out eight and walking three.

Worden went 1-3 at the plate and drove in two runs while Gollow went 2-4 to lead the Cowboys in hits.

Northwestern accumulated 10 hits on the day. Martocchio and Stimson each collected three hits for Northwestern. They also earned seven walks and seven stolen bases in the game.
