3rd Week Spring SSBHL stats and Star players of the week

Good afternoon SSBHL community!

Last week’s weather looked very bad, but very glad we pushed though and played! It turned out to be decent weather for the most part! Thank you to the guys for helping with the cleanup of the rink!

Point Producing Kings

1st) Jumping into the 1st slot nicely would be the Hooligans scoring dynamo, Joe MacKenzie aka J-Mac. Joey had a spectacular performance and its why he sits in the top slot for this week! Joey went off and scored 3 goals against a very difficult defense and goalie. One of which was a deflection goal. Joey also managed 1 assist as well to help dish out the goals to his linemates. Surprisingly, this is J-mac 1st appearance in the top 3 slot, considering last season we saw him make an appearance 4 times last season! Though I am sure this isn’t his one and only appearance! Overall J-mac was a force sprinting full force and crashing every lose ball to make a play, knew the right spots to go to and effectively applied offensive pressure. Excellent work Joey!

2nd) The second place slot this week is once again Aidan Lovett! who was once again just a menace to society to the PitBulls Squad! I don’t think anyone is better at seeing the play develop and knowing exactly how to play than Aiden who once again put up 3 assists and potted home a goal, to gain 4 points total. Aiden in his second season is without a doubt one the best playmakers in the league, He’s able to work with any situation the defense can throw at him. His offensive intelligence isn’t to be treated lightly as he will counter with the perfect combination at any given time. Just a spectacular game again from a incredible player. Great work Aiden!

3rd) Last But not least is a 4-way split! We had many 3-point players this week so they will all be in 3rd this week. We had the Spiders big steed Matt Hollarn with 3 assists, Steve Wilde of the Stone Hands at 3 goals, Nick Provenzano of the Beavers at 1 goal and 2 assists, and Tim Shyshpar also a Beavers player at 2 goals and 1 assist. All 4 players were instrumental last week in their success or just coming up shy with a loss. Hollarn was responsible for more than half of the goals being scored in his match, Steve Wilde got yet another Hat Trick performance with 3 goals! Nick Provenzano was a well-oiled and well-balanced machine with 1 goal and 2 assists, and Tim Shyshpar was also a solid performer with 2 goals and an assist. Well done you 4!

Decisive defensemen

1st) Our star defensive player of the week belongs to Gianni Sciola who absolutely altered this game in a huge way! G was all over the opposition and had his stick involved with the d all game long. With the Spiders Flexing in Coleman, G needed to bring a top performance which he did! Not only was his shot blocking, and ability to break up the play massive, but he also scored 2 monster goals and gained one assist and claimed 3 points in the day. Just a big-time performance from a clutch player, excellent G!

2) I would personally like to welcome a new appearance this week to the leaderboard! In second this week is the one and only Steve Swi of the Hooligans! Swi looked like a completely different player then we are used to, appearing fast on his feet, positionally sound, and involved in every shirt he was a part of. Not only that, but he also scored his 1st goal in over 2 seasons and had one assist, claiming a cool solid 2 points on the blue line! Not sure if this is new version of Swi we should get used to, but overall, a very strong and solid performance and one we look forward to seeing again! Awesome work man! Keep it up!

3rd) in 3rd this week, we have the Stone Hands solid D man, Matt Connolly who once again had a strong defensive performance and was all over the opposition against the PitBulls last week! Connolly has been looking very sharp this season so far and is honestly a contender I think for best defensive player of the year, it be crazy if he wasn’t in the discussion, however we are a bit early in the season for that. But Matt was solid with 1 goal and 1 assist and I believe he hit a post or 2 as well. He has been a pillar of structure and support this season as he is able to get involved with the offense and transition back to defense very efficiently. Super work so far man, keep that rolling!

Grand Station Goaltending

1st) coming into the 1st place goalie slot is actually a flex goalie from last week! We all know and love him, the infamous Al Burbank! Al Flexed into the Hooligans Roster as a goalie and put up some very good numbers! Facing 37 shots from Smokey Joes, Limited them to only 3 goals, stopping 34 shots and claiming a very nice save percentage of .918 with a 3GAA. Al was tested often from the high scoring Joes of Swan and Doherty, but managed to limit them to only a goal a piece each. Al was extremely engaged in his ability to come out of net and play the ball, and I don’t think anyone else has that same ability as Al. He also made some signature glove save robberies! Just overall nice work man and good to see you back for a game!

2nd) the second-place title this week goes to the Beavers goaltender Dan Harding, who was finally able to put together a decent game this season. Harding faced 45 shots throughout the day, stopping 41 of them and managing to hold a nice cool save percentage of .911 with a GAA of 4.0. Harding has seemingly struggled a bit to start the season but with this performance, looks to add on to the success and keep the ball rolling. Overall, a solid game and job well done.

3rd) Our 3rd place is owned by the Stone Hands Goalie, Manny Debettencourt! To say Manny was fun to watch this week is an understatement, Manny had some cool and spectacular saves flailing back to make some wild saves! He didn’t face a lot of shots, but the ones he did face were dangerous opportunities, facing 28 shots and stopping 24 of them, holding a decent save percentage of .857 and a GAA of 4.0. Just fun Goalie to watch at many times and the way he’s able to contort his body and make a last-minute save is something else to see. Nice work man!
