Field 1 - Marks Properties vs Cornerstone Services
Cornerstone Services took two games from Marks Properties. The first 4 1/2 innings of Game 1 were a 1-run game. Cornerstone scored eight runs in the final two innings to secure the victory. In Game 2, Cornerstone roared out to a 10-0 lead after four innings, but didn't score a run the rest of the way and finished with a 10-2 victory.
Joe Siciliano had a great day at the plate, going 6-for-8 with 6 RBI. Jeff Kelly launched a three-run bomb in Game 2 and finished the day 5-for-8 with 7 RBI. Barry Bertwell was 6-for-7 on the day (plus a BB) with 5 runs scored. Charlie Kacamburas, Dan Downs, and Eric Pellerin all had 4 hits apiece, too.
Cornerstone's defense was stellar on the day. The infield and outfield were solid. Charlie made a great sliding catch and even replaced his own divot in LCF. Greg Elwell was a rock in RCF. The middle infield tandem of Pat Kelly and Austin Spinella was adding outs when needed. Cornerstone (3-1) will face the Claddagh Pub (0-2) next Sunday.
Field 2 - Lawrence British Club vs Citywide Designs
Game 1 - Both teams came out strong, 12-7 Citywide after 3 innings, pitcher's duel after that. LBC was led by Mark Sloan, Steve Pilcher, and Ralph Polichetti, each with 3 hits. Vinny Indeglia, Mike Simard, Perry Delisle, and Brian McCormack all had 3 hits for Citywide Designs. Mike Simard was the winning pitcher.
Game 2 - Citywide Designs led from start to finish, taking a 17-11 victory for their 4th win of the young season. Citywide pounded out 30 hits, led by Gary Desrochers, Brian McCormack, and Mike Perrone with 4 hits each, and 5 other players with 3 hits. Gary D had a long grand slam HR. Citywide had a very solid defensive day, including some great individual efforts from super-sub Perry Delisle at SS, Pat Collins at 2B, and the middle OFs Gary Desrochers and rookie Brian McCormack, who had a great debut in the MVSSA.
LBC made a seventh inning charge but fell short. LBC was paced by Steve Pilcher, Roger Blundell and super sub BJ Mannion with three hits. BJ pitched both games for LBC today and kept LBC within striking distance all day. From coach Chris - "Thank you BJ, as I know this was out of your comfort zone."
The Pug - The Loft vs Claddagh Pub
Claddagh Pub jumped out to a 5-1 lead early, but can't hold on and falls to The Loft by a score of 9-7. Bob Brown led the way for the Claddagh with 3 hits and 3 runs scored. DJ, Bruce Botelho, and Ken Holton contributed 2 hits each. The Loft got their first win of the season. Jack Joaquin had 2 doubles and a single, going 3 for 4. Dan McDonald pitched great and helped himself going 2 for 2 with 2 RBI.
The Loft held on to win game 2, 13-12. The Claddagh Pub scored 10 runs in the 7th to cut a 13-2 deficit to 1 run, but leaves the tying run on 2nd. Jeff Torrisi and Joe Demore had 3 hits each. DJ Fontaine chipped in with 2 EBH's and drove in 3 runs. Pete Bonasoro, Kenny Holton, and Ron Aquino contribute 2 hits each.
Speed kills - Jack Joaquin had 2 inside-the-park home runs and 4 RBI. Chet Ryan hit one over the fence and 3 RBIs. Chris Kneeland went 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs. The 3 of them knocked in 10 of the 13 runs. Dan McDonald and Dave Pierce both had 3 hits for The Loft.
