Subscribe to our NewsletterWeek 2 Spring 2026 SSBHL: Statements Are Being Made!
Good afternoon SSBHL, Sorry for the delay on the weekly writeups, Ill hopefully be caught up soon once I post week 3's performers. In the meantime here is week 2's high perfomers
We’re already seeing chemistry build, rivalries heat up, and some players separate themselves as early contenders for season awards. Let’s get right into it.
🏒 Offensive Standouts
#1 Offensive Player of the Week – Aidan “Nighthawk” Lovett (Spiders)
Back-to-back dominance.
Aidan Lovett is officially on a tear to start the Spring 2026 season, claiming the top offensive spot once again—this time with another 6-point performance (2 goals, 4 assists).
Lovett continues to be the engine that drives the Spiders’ offense, controlling the pace of play and creating opportunities seemingly at will. Whether he’s threading cross-rink passes through traffic or finishing plays himself, he’s been nearly impossible to contain.
Through two weeks, one thing is clear:
If Lovett is on the floor, he’s making an impact.
#2 Offensive Player of the Week – Matt Swan (Smokey Joes Captain)
Captain leading by example.
Matt Swan wasted no time reminding everyone why he’s one of the most dangerous scorers in the league, putting up a 4-goal performance with zero assists—but make no mistake, this was pure finishing ability on display.
Swan found open space, capitalized on chances, and buried everything he touched. A clinical performance from the Smokey Joes captain, who stepped up in a big way for his squad this week.
When Swan gets hot, it usually means a long night for opposing defenses.
#3 Offensive Player of the Week – Jake Roth (Smokey Joes)
Consistency from the rookie.
Jake Roth follows up his strong Week 1 debut with another solid outing, tallying 3 goals this week.
Roth continues to prove he belongs, showing a natural scoring touch and strong awareness around the net. He’s quickly becoming a key piece of the Smokey Joes offense and a reliable secondary scoring option behind Swan.
Safe to say—this is no fluke. The kid can play.
🛡 Defensive Standouts
#1 Defensive Player of the Week – Brendan O’Brien (Marshfield Gators)
Complete two-way presence.
Brendan O’Brien takes the top defensive honors this week with a strong all-around performance, finishing with 2 assists while making his presence felt in every zone.
O’Brien consistently jumped into the offensive play at the right times, contributed to scoring chances, and didn’t sacrifice his defensive responsibilities. He blocked shots, disrupted plays, and was constantly involved from start to finish.
Simply put—he was everywhere.
#2 Defensive Player of the Week – Josh Charmatz (Gators Captain)
Leadership without the stat line.
Josh Charmatz may not have recorded a point this week, but his impact was undeniable.
Positionally sound all game long, Charmatz kept plays alive, shut down opportunities before they developed, and led by example with smart, disciplined hockey. Add in multiple blocked shots and strong communication, and you’ve got a captain doing exactly what his team needs.
Sometimes the most important performances don’t show up on the scoresheet.
#3 Defensive Player of the Week – Eric Kinger (Smokey Joes)
Relentless motor.
Eric Kinger brought his usual high-energy style this week, finishing with 1 assist while doing all the little things that make a difference.
He was constantly moving, applying pressure, chasing down loose balls, and staying engaged in every play. His effort level never dipped, and that kind of scrappy, nonstop hustle gives the Smokey Joes a huge boost.
You know exactly what you’re getting from Kinger every shift—and it’s all-out effort.
🥅 Goaltenders of the Week
#1 Goalie of the Week – TIE
Nick Bonofiglio (Marshfield Gators)
Paul “Panda” Mendonca (Smokey Joes)
For the first time this season, we’ve got a tie at the top—and it’s well deserved.
Both goaltenders faced 26 shots and turned away 23, finishing with identical .885 save percentages.
Nick Bonofiglio continues to be a steady, reliable presence in net for the Gators, keeping his team competitive and giving them a chance to win every game.
Meanwhile, Panda once again showed his ability to lock things down when it matters most, coming up with key saves to keep the Smokey Joes in control.
With goaltending struggling across the board in Week 2, these two stood above the rest—and earn the only goalie honors this week.
Final Thoughts
Week 2 showed us a lot.
- Aidan Lovett is setting the early MVP pace
- Smokey Joes are getting major production from both Swan and Roth
- The Gators’ defensive core is stepping up in a big way
- And goaltending… well, it’s something teams will need to clean up moving forward
As we head into Week 3, expect things to tighten up, rivalries to grow, and the standings to start taking shape.
Let’s keep it rolling. 🏒
