The Frosty Dawgs, after a two-week layover, finally took the field again at the beautiful Merrick Dump, taking on Jack Daniels Tuesday night.
Short big bats Al "Manny" Schmidt and BIG Pete Apostolides, who took in run-rule defeats playing of all things - Spring Playoffs at Baseball Heaven versus semi-pro softball teams, the Frosty bats didn't skip a beat. The Frosties put up 12 runs in the top of the first, including a string a ten straight hits to begin the game, to jump out in front of Jack Daniels early. The Frosties later completed the run-rule in four innings by a score of 20-7. Highlights of the game included the electric bats of Nicky "I GOT IT" Harrison, Anthony "Boom Boom" Bruno, Tony "Hustle" Freddo, Tom "the Chair" Frem, and Tom "GQ" Kalina -- all with big multiple bullets all over the field. CCD Greg Kalina finally hit a big blast. Joe "Dead Pull" Musalo and Brian "Xavier Nady" Goerke also kept the offense moving.
Game two, as expected, the Frosties came out flat -- until the 3rd and 4th innings, which saw the team put up 14 runs -- allowing the Frosties to coast to a 18-12 win. The Frosty D almost blew an 11-run lead in the 7th, but luckily enough, three outs were somehow recorded. Highlights included Rob "the Regulator" Goerke with a perfect boxscore, Ray "Rescue Dawg" Cianfrone who took some heat from the Jack Daniels female entourage by drawing 16 walks. TK, the CCD and Nicky hit tape-measure blasts. Brian "Xavier Nady" Goerke went 0-4, further cementing his still-temporary nickname.
Good wins for the Frosties -- who now play Wednesday at Merrick Park vs. the 495ers. Likely a battle for first. Be there!
