Putting all the Coach Freddo-incited green bat/red bat nonsense aside, the Frosty Dawgs took two from the first place 495ers at Mitchel Field last night by scores of 14-13 and 20-15. Two closely contested games by two good teams led to two satisfying wins by the Frosties -- who did it with the three keys to winning -- timely hitting, strong defense, and strong pitching. Well, the defense may be stretching it for some players -- including a tossed ball from right center into Field #2 of Mitchel -- but in general very strong.
Big days at the plate by Tom "the Chair" Frem -- who is having an-MVP caliber season with the bat. Bombs by Nicky "I GOT IT" Harrison, Lou Ohle, George Eng, and Coach Freddo balanced the attack. Brian "Xavier Nady" Goerke had a big day in the leadoff hole. The remainder of the lineup -- while slow to start, began to wake up with the bats -- and once that happened, the Frosties overtook the 495ers.
Game one saw extra innings for the second time this year. A big two-out, two runner-on snag by Tom "TK/GQ" Kalina brought the offense up to the plate -- who squeezed out a run National League style on a Brian "Casino" Goerke single. Game two, the Frosties jumped out to a 9-run lead in the first inning, batting through the line-up and never looking back.
An excellent game all around. Looks like we're playing the 495ers at Mitchel on Wednesday at 7:30pm. See Coach Freddo for details! Stay tuned!
