Frosty Dawgs open up their season with a split

April 22, 2008 – 07:05 AM
Ahhh...another softball season is upon us and the Frosty Dawgs have finally taken the field.  Last night at Newbridge Park, the Frosty Dawgs shook off some early rust to take a split against familiar foes in Satan's War Machine.

Led by the white-hot leadoff bat of Nicky "I GOT IT" Harrison, the Frosties continued to put up runs with SWM in a back-and-forth battle that went into extra innings.  Exactly what this team needed to start the year -- a two-hour softball game.  Unfortunately, the Frosties came up flat in the late innings and couldn't take the lead, eventually losing 23-17 in 8 innings.  Highlights of the game have to go to Brian "Xavier Nady" Goerke, who smacked a grand slam and later followed with a solo shot.  BIG Pete Apostolides, who will shore up the middle of the order nicely this year, with a nice 3-4 effort.  Tom "VIP Chair" Frem who had a big 6-7 night.  And finally BP home run champ and CCD Greg "Headcase" Kalina who almost threw out his back flailing at a K-Dogg knuckler.

Game two saw the Frosties take control.  CCD Kalina finally started throwing some strikes.  Brian "Xavier Nady" Goerke hit another monstrous blast.  Rob "the Regulator" Goerke put together a 3-3 showing.  And basically the rest of the team showed a good deal of patience by taking several walks to take the game in a 4-inning run rule 22-8.

Next week, we're on to Merrick Park to face the evil Darkside.  The Frosty Dawgs are retooled and ready to make some noise at the Nassau County Dump.  See you there!
