Another split at the dump

May 15, 2008 – 07:15 AM
In a battle for first place, the Frosty Dawgs took on the 495ers at the Merrick dump last night and earned another split.  The Frosties, flat with the bats the whole night, were able to scratch out a game two victory after being run ruled in game one.

Game one really had no other highlights other than the late (or early since it was a run rule) spark of the Frosty bats, which management hoped would carry over into game two.  Gino "the Surgeon" Gaeta led the late inning surge with a blast to left-center, but it was not enough, as the Frosties dropped game one in four innings, 23-9.

Game two started out similarly to game one as the relentless 495ers took a 9-run lead early.  The Frosty Dawgs responded however with a 15-run third inning, and after some back-and-forth, where the 495ers scored four in the top of the 7th to tie up the game, the Frosties put one across in the bottom of the 7th on BIG Pete Apostolides' single to win game two.

Highlights included a legitmate home run blast by Anthony "Boom Boom" Bruno, a towering 3-run shot to rightfield by Tony "Hustle" Freddo, another blast by Al "Manny" Schmidt, and steady hitting by Brian "Xavier Nady" Goerke, Tom "GQ" Kalina, and Joe "Dead Pull" Musalo.  CCD Greg Kalina has now formally declared himself an official headcase in the batters box -- definitely his earliest annual announcement of his career.

We move on to Newbridge Park next week to face the Patriots in an 8:15pm battle.  Only Musalo is out for now.  See you there!
