Oakland, Cumberland in finals rematch

The Oakland Oaks and Cumberland Orioles, who finished 1-2 in the regular season, won their semifinal playoff series and will meet in a league championship rematch.

The best-of-three finals begins Saturday, Aug. 11, with a 1 p.m. game at the Hot Stove Complex. Oakland will host the second game, and third if necessary, on Sunday, Aug. 12, at Garrett College. Sunday's first game begins at 1 p.m.

Oakland (22-3) beat Petersburg in their semifinal series, 2-1. The Oaks won the deciding game, 9-0, with Ryan Valentine and Ty Wickline combining on a two-hitter.

Cumberland (18-8) swept Tri-State in their semifinal series. Trenton Eirich tossed a two-hit shutout in a 1-0 win in the opening game, and Cameron Bratton tossed a six-hitter in a 3-1 win in game two.

The Oaks and Orioles will face each other for the third straight year. The Oaks won last year's best-of-three finals 2-1, and swept the O's in 2016. Over the last three years, Oakland is 61-11 and Cumberland 58-23 in league play.
