RJJB Mission Statement

Red Jacket Junior Baseball League is dedicated to providing a healthy environment; one that is conducive to providing our kids the opportunity to learn and demonstrate skills associated with the game of baseball. The Board recognizes that the program plays an important role in promoting the physical, social and emotional development of our players. Within this environment, all participants (players, parents and spectators) are to be shown and return the highest respect for opponents, teammates, coaches, spectators and officials. It is essential for parents, coaches and officials to encourage our players to embrace the values of good sportsmanship.

Sportsmanship is the key in creating such an environment. All RJJB activities are governed with the premise that all participants, on and off the field, conduct themselves in a manner that exhibits respect for one’s opponent and graciousness in winning or losing. Although not a formal goal of RJJB, it is hoped that RJJB participants will carry things they were taught through their association with RJJB, such as teamwork, fairness, self-control, and good sportsmanship, into their adult lives.

Red Jacket Junior Baseball League also recognizes that baseball is a competitive sport, and being so, carries its own environment. There will be situations where a fine line exists between what could be considered competitive actions and unsportsmanlike behavior. Behavior that inflicts, or threatens to inflict, either verbal or physical attacks, including, but not limited to, intent to create a feeling of fear, or maliciously causes injury, will not be tolerated, either between or outside the playing field.

During all RJJB activities, those officiating are given full authority to maintain a competitive atmosphere promoting clean, safe fun. The official has an obligation to control such atmosphere. The official is given the authority to exercise all measures required to meet their obligations. It is expected that the official will use his/her best judgment in taking the appropriate actions needed to maintain control of a safe and clean environment. As a guidline:

• Players, in the opinion of the “official,” making a deliberate attempt to harm or injure a participant will be immediately ejected from a RJJB activity.
• Players heard by the “official,” making an offensive, aggressive verbal remark(s) or seen making an inappropriate gesture will be immediately confronted. The player will receive at the minimum a warning. The official may choose to eject the player if deemed appropriate. It is understood that the official cannot hear or see everything that happens on the field. It is expected that the managers of the teams will bring incidents to the attention of the official for action deemed necessary.
• Based on the severity of the player’s actions, including, but not limited to, physical harm and severe emotional distress, the official shall notify League representatives division commissioners for further disciplinary actions.
• Participants, inclusive of players and adults unwilling to follow the good sportsmanlike behavior will be directed to leave the area immediately under the care of a responisible adult. If the participant does not fully comply with the directives of the official, the local authorities will be contacted, and the participant will be removed.
