"Never, never, never give up." - Sir Winston Churchill

On a cold Friday night, the visiting Irondequoit Eagles and the home team Victor Blue Devils put on a scintillating display of high school hockey in their 1st league meeting of the year.  The Eagles fast-paced, intense style of play collided with the Blue Devils hard-skating, uptempo style and the result was a memorable contest that was a lot of fun to watch!  The Eagles got on the scoreboard first after they created a power-rush while both teams were a man-down.  Blue Devils goalie Pieter Bartelse made the initial save, but an Irondequoit forward was on the puck first and put away the rebound for the first goal of the game.  The first period ended with the Eagles leading the Blue Devils 1-0.  In the second period, the game pace and tempo stayed fast and furious as Victor looked to tie the game and Irondequoit looked to put the game away with some additional tallies.  Despite quality chances to score by both teams, either luck or great goal-tending on both ends of the rink stymied shooters of both squads and the second period ended with the score still in favor of the Eagles 1-0.  At the start of the third period the Blue Devils' style of hard skating, constant pressure finally paid dividends as Victor created their first goal early in the third period.  Sophomore forward Alex Parton tallied his third goal of the season to get the Blue Devils on the board.  Senior defenders Josh Alberts and Connor Gelabert assisted on Alex's goal.  This goal had a ripple effect as the momentum of the game began to swing in Victor's favor.  On what proved to be the game-winning goal, Alex turned provider as he set up Lukas Miller for Lukas's 4th goal of the year.  The grittiest goal of the night was set up by Cal Lambert.  He took the hit to set up the play and helped Roman Czornobil tally his third goal of the season.  Lukas was also credited an assist on Roman's goal.  With about two minutes remaining, Victor led 3-1, and the Eagles tried to tie the game up by pulling their goaltender.  The Blue Devils fended off some intense pressure and Josh Albert ended up putting in the empty-netter for his 5th goal of the year.  The game ended 4-1 in Victor's favor, but the Eagles gave the Blue Devils all they could handle and more in this extraordinary game.  The Blue Devils' next game is away vs. Brockport at Tuttle Ice Arena.  The puck drops at 5:00 PM.  Come on out and support your Blue Devils this Tuesday night!
