2019 Academic Scholarship Winners
YYSA Announces 2018/2019 Scholarship Awardees
April 29, 2019-Yuma, AZ: YYSA would like to wish our 2018/2019 Scholarship winners the best of luck in their future and THANK them for being part of the YYSA family for so many years. We are Proud of you!
On Sunday, April 28, 2019 at the monthly April Board of Directors meeting, League President Joe Kochis and fellow volunteer board members recognized the 2018/2019 YYSA scholarship beneficiaries.
Winning seniors were: Kimberly Ambriz, Yuma High School and Thomas Bergmann, at Cibola High school. Both players played this past season on the U19, Co-Ed “Sternco Engineer’s Strikers”. Each earned $1000.00 in unrestricted scholarship funds to aid in their future academic and social ambitions. Aid is able to be used for anything the student finds necessary i.e., travel expenses to school and from school, books, tuition, outfitting dorm room etc.
Ms. Ambriz, upon graduation, will attend the University of Arizona in Tucson and plans on majoring in dentistry. Mr. Bergmann, upon high school graduation will be actively participating with a Christian overseas mission organization, “Youth With A Mission” in Paris, France. After his mission service he will attend Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, CA.
About the YYSA Scholarship: Requirements: Applicant MUST be a senior in high school (public, private, on-line or home school); MUST have played with YYSA in the 2018/2019 season; MUST have had a at least a “C” average or, greater on 2018 yea-rend report card and MUST be an applicant for any educational institution, trade, or military branch/institution, etc.
About YYSA: Yuma youth Soccer Association, first incorporated in 1976, has been meeting the recreational soccer needs of Yuma area youth for over 43 years, all run by a volunteer Board of Directors. In fact, that equates to over 46,000 children and nearly 8,000 volunteer Coach’s over the years whom have been impacted by recreational youth soccer.
This past season, YYSA had over 40 sponsors, nearly 1300, youth between the ages of 3-19 and nearly 300 volunteer coaching staff (all volunteer).
