Announcement Regarding Concessions

The Concessions vendor from last year will not be able to support MBSL operations in 2026 so we will return to our 100% volunteer model. Our current plan is to reduce the hours of operation for the Concessions Stand, likely limited to Saturdays.

We are seeking a Concessions Coordinator to oversee all Concessions operations (e.g., stocking, cleaning, scheduling volunteers). Please visit the MBSL website for more details if you are interested in this paid position!

*************************************

We will continue to offer the Volunteer Opt-Out to families who prefer not to perform the 6-hour volunteer commitment (e.g., Concessions, Coaching, Field Prep, serve on MBSL Board). The Volunteer Opt-Out fee for Spring 2026 will be $200.00 per family.

(Please note: the opt-out fee used to be charged "per registered player" and we have revised it to "per family.")

Cougar Cubs is for players in Pre-K who will be entering Kindergarten in the upcoming Fall. Players meet once per week on Saturday morning. Cougar Cubs emphasize fun while building foundational baseball skills. MBSL instructors teach and demonstrate the basics of baseball including throwing, catching, fielding, and hitting (off a tee) in a safe, fun, fast-paced setting. Each 60-minute session includes a 30-minute "skills session" followed by a 30-minute “fun game."

Instructional Ball

Kindergarten

Instructional Ball (I-Ball) is for players in Kindergarten and young 1st  graders who have never played baseball. Players meet twice per week on Saturday morning and one weeknight. Managers and coaches will evaluate the progress of I-Ball participants and incorporate game situations and competitive games as appropriate.

D-Ball emphasizes fun in combination with player development. Coaches pitch to batters while all players bat and play the field every inning. There are no strikeouts or walks in D-Ball. Games are played on a smaller-dimension (46:60) field, have a three-inning minimum, and last about 90 minutes.

Rookies is our first "kid pitch" division which combines kid pitch with coach pitch. Player development is emphasized throughout the program. Players will pitch (coaches will assist in the early part of the season and pitching machines may also be used). Catchers wear full equipment to learn the position but there is no stealing allowed. All batters bat each inning but only nine fielders play in the field (field positions are rotated to equalize playing time). A team may only bat through the lineup one time per inning. Games are played on a smaller-dimension (46:60) field, and last about 1 hour 45 minutes.

Minors are more competitive than Rookies and play follows most of the rules in the standard baseball rulebook. Minors players pitch; stealing is allowed; and an inning continues until there are three outs or five runs scored by the batting team. A certified umpire is used. Games are played on a smaller-dimension (46:60) field, and last about 1 hour 45 minutes.

Two certified umpires are used. Games are played on a mid-dimension field (50:70), and last about 2 hours.

This division uses two certified umpires and follows the entire standard baseball rulebook. Babe Ruth will likely feature 10 regular season interleague games against Rec teams from towns in Somerset and Hunterdon counties followed by exciting post-season playoffs. Games typically last 2 hours 15 minutes and are scheduled on weeknight evenings and/or Saturdays with half played “away” in neighboring towns (travel up to 40 minutes).

Note: 7th graders playing 12U Travel are strongly encouraged to play Majors as opposed to Babe Ruth to maintain consistency in field size.
