BONNY RIVER SOFTBALL LEAGUE RULES
- The home team is responsible to line the field (batters box, home plate line & commitment line especially) , ensure the bases are measured, put out secure, etc. before each game!
- The home team is responsible to clean up the field and take the garbage home on the last game on Sunday every week, (there is no longer curb side pick up!!!)
- The home team is responsible to organize an umpire for their game.
- Games will be 2 hours or 9 innings (whichever comes first).
- There will be 5 run rule per inning EXCEPT the loosing team can get as many home runs per inning up to a tied game. The LAST inning ONLY being an open inning for both teams.
- Players must keep both feet in the batters box at home plate or it will be an OUT.
- If there is 10 minutes OR less left to the game, there is NO starting a new inning and if the time runs out the game goes back to the last fully played inning. There will be at least a 30 minute grace period (if needed) between games to help comply with minimal numbers at the field.
- Players who are on the line up must be present before the batting order has been completely gone thru once or it is an OUT (cannot add players to line up part way thru the game).
- No more than 2 guys bat in a row (if needed the girls will have to be rotated threw the batting order in the order they are on the batting line-up). If you do not have a girl to rotate because they are on bases, then it is considered an out.
- With 10 players, ideally there is a minimum of 3 girls and 7 guys on the field. If agreed on before the game by both captains, an exception can be made to play with 2 girls and 8 guys if only absolutely necessary as we want to keep the league co-ed!
- Pitch needs to have a 5 foot to 10 foot arch. Remember a swing is a strike and if the ball hits the mat it is a STRIKE.
- Any pitch that is made within the 5-10 foot arch and it hits the mat it is a STRIKE.
- Second foul on the third strike is an OUT.
- ALWAYS run behind home plate (must cross the home plate line).
- Once you cross the commitment line (from 3rd base to home) you must continue to home (NO turning back to third).
- A player cannot be tagged after the commitment line and the opposition has to have possession of the ball AND be on home plate to get the runner out.
- If fielder touches the orange at first base during the play the runner is SAFE.
- Runners must turn toward the fence when running to first if they do not intend to advance to second, or they can be tagged out.
- If a guy is walked in 4 straight pitches and a girl is batting after him, it is an automatic double for the girl (she can choose to either hit or take the base).
- Pinch runner- Injured players can have a runner for the WHOLE game BUT it must be stated at the very beginning before the game starts and the player MUST tell the ump as soon as they step up to the plate. If injured during a game the runner can get a pinch runner. REMEMBER in order to get a pinch runner the runner MUST STOP at first base.
- Team rosters - During regular season a team can only pick up players if required but must use their own players first, and require a minimum of 2 girls on the field.
- NO bottles on the field, ONLY cans (be sure to clean up any and all garbage and cans before your team leaves).
- Winning teams MUST report the score to Sophie Caldwell and on the group Facebook page.
- Infield fly rule applies when there is less than 2 people out and there are people on 1st and 2nd base.
- If the ball hits 3rd base and then bounces out is it considered fair.
- REMEMBER you cannot run until the batters swings (not as soon as the pitch is released).
- Once the schedule is posted, there will be no modifications. If a game is to be rescheduled, it must be played no later than the last regular season game date on the schedule, if date cannot be agreed upon each team will get 1 point.
- If due to weather the games must be rescheduled, the call will be made 3 hours before the game start time.
- All comments game or league related are to be made thru their captain, players are NOT to argue with UMPS and the captains are responsible to remove the player form the game if they do! You will get one warning, next time you will be asked to leave.
- The homerun rule will be +2 (i.e. One team can only ever have 2 more home runs than the other team or its an SINGLE).
