Travel Evaluations for Spring 2019 – November 30th, December 2nd, 7th, 9th, 2018

***** Please read this entire document.  All information is important and your cooperation is essential during this process. ****

New for 2019 Travel

Players must sign up for evaluations on the Media Area Girls Softball website.  The reason is two-fold.  Media Area Girls Softball (MAGS) needs to have a release form for players being evaluated.  Second, advance sign-ups will provide the travel coordinator opportunity to have all the essential elements in place to conduct a smooth and thorough evaluation.  There is no advance charge for evaluations.

A few important points as you fill out the form:

  • Please note the first question for each player asks what Del Val organization they played for in the Spring of 2018.  This is NOT a yes/no question.  Please enter the town name of the Del Val team or N/A if your daughter did not play Del Val travel in the Spring of 2018.

Again, there is no charge for softball evaluations.

2019 Travel Fees

MAGS has been fortunate to have Elwyn donate our gym time since the formation of our organization.  Beginning this year MAGS will have to pay for the use of the Elwyn gym.  The MAGS board has voted to increase the Travel registration fee by $45.00 per player to offset the cost of evaluations and indoor practices.

1 child - $185.00

2 children - $290.00

3 children - $385.00

Girls placed on travel teams will have six indoor practices at Elwyn beginning the weekend of 1/25/2019 through 3/3/2019.  MAGS has secured our traditional gym times of Friday evening and Sunday morning.  Practice dates and times will be communicated when teams are announced.

Evaluation Information

Media Area Girls Softball (MAGS) will have travel division evaluations for the Spring 2019 season in November/December 2018.  Players will be evaluated for placement on a travel team.  Players who are not placed on a travel team will be referred to the in-house league.  Parents will be instructed to register for either the travel program or in-house league by the end of December 2018.  Registration for the travel program will not open until player assignments are communicated.  Registration instructions will be provided at that time.

*** Playoffs for the DelVal league begin the third week of June.  Playoffs typically take two weeks, however families should allow three weeks for playoffs in the event of rain.  Please keep this in mind when scheduling vacations as it becomes very difficult to compete in the playoffs without a full team.***

MAGS enters travel teams in the DelVal League.  Players must be a resident of Delaware County, PA.

Please review the MAGS travel softball frequently asked questions document in the HANDOUTS section of the website to determine if travel softball is a good fit for your daughter and family.

*** Players must attend both evaluation sessions. ***

Evaluation dates and times:

14U (Born between 1/2/2004 and 1/1/2006.)

Throwing, fielding, running: Sunday December 2nd @ 9:30 AM

Batting: Sunday December 9th @ 9:30 AM

Batting: Friday December 7th @ 7:30 PM

10U (Born between 1/2/2008 and 1/1/2010.)

Batting: Friday December 7th @ 6:00 PM

8U (Born between 1/2/2010 and 1/1/2012)

MAGS is not going to enter an 8U team in DelVal for Spring 2019.  Players in this age group will play in the in-house league.  MAGS in-house rules for this age group are nearly identical to the DelVal rules.  There is no need to travel in this age group.

Evaluations are held in the Davidson Gym at Elwyn.

The Davidson Gym is in the Education Center (building 27 on the map).  The parking lot is exactly where the words, "Education Ctr" appear on the map.  Give yourself extra time to find the gym if you have never been on Elywn’s campus.

Field Cleanup Day Cancelled!

We are hoping that Spring will eventually makes its appearance, but it does not look like it will be this weekend.

Due to the impending bad weather and the current state of the fields (too wet to work with), we will have to unfortunately cancel Field Cleanup Day previously scheduled for April 7th.
Our Board members will be taking on the task of making sure the fields are ready to go when the season starts in a few weeks.  Hopefully we will get a few days of cooperating weather to make this happen!
We may need assistance from some additional parents and coaches for certain projects we need completed before Opening please stay tuned for any requests we put out there for help.
Please think some warm happy spring thoughts to help get us to Opening Day!  We need some good weather karma!
Thank you!
MAGS Board

MAGS Quick Hits of the Week: 3.7.18

What Equipment do I Need for My Daughter?

We get this question a lot and want to make sure you know what is needed for the upcoming season....
  • Everyone in every Division needs their own glove.
Cleats (metal cleats are not allowed):
  • Encouraged for Tball, Coach Pitch(strongly encouraged) and Senior Divisions.
  • Mandatory for Junior and Intermediate Divisions.
  • We have helmets for girls to share, but we encourage each girl to have their own helmet from home for sanitary reasons.
  • All Divisions should wear helmets with a cage/shield and chinstrap.
Fielding Face Guards:
  • Fielding face guards are required for all infielders in the Junior and Intermediate Divisions.
  • They are strongly encouraged in the Coach Pitch Division.
  • They are optional for Tball and Senior Division.
  • The league has fielding masks to share, but we encourage you to purchase your daughter her own.
  • The league has many bats to share, so it is not mandatory to have your own bat.
  • In fact, we encourage you not to use your own bat unless you are absolutely sure it is the right size for your daughter, as many times girls are using a bat that is not the right size from home.
Softball Pants:
  • Softball Pants are strongly encouraged for girls in the Junior and Intermediate Divisions, as this is the age that they begin to slide on the bases.
  • They are optional for Tball, Coach Pitch and Senior Divisions.

MAGS Quick Hits of the Week 3.1.18: ACTION REQUESTED

We are looking for some volunteers to help us with field setup and maintenance (for example, lining the fields before games, setting up the bases, general field maintenance, etc...).  If you or someone you know would like to get involved with the league and help out in this way, please email us at
We know a lot of you are running right home from work and over to the field for games during the week.  Sometimes you have no time for dinner and are looking for something substantial to eat (or for your kids to eat) at the snack stand.  We have heard your feedback and want to try and make that happen for you.....but we need volunteers to help us fill those shifts at the stand. Please email us at if you are interested in helping out with the snack stand this year.
