Area players reap trophy hardware a state summer softball tournament
by John Heglie

Though the recently completed Montana Junior Olympic State Fastpitch Tournament held in Great Falls yielded no Mission Valley-based teams that advanced into the hardware rounds, a handful of teams that did competed for trophy plaques featured several individual players from the area among their rosters.
At the 16U Division, the Missoula-based, Robb Latrielle/Kyle Weaver-coached MT Avalanche repeated as state champions by winning twice against the Kalispell-based, Jeremy Grady-coached Emeralds. Polson Lady Pirate Logan McCrea was part of the Avalanche champs, while fellow Polson teammate Madison Turner contributes to the roster of the runnerup Emeralds.
The Mission Valley area had representation among each of the rosters of the top three placers in the 12U Division. The state champion MT Wildfire features Kodi Sorrell of Ronan. The runnerup Kalispell Emeralds coached by Albert and Brandi Hunt include Polson area residents Cambree Bick and Hannah Couture. The third place Frenchtown Fury Fastpitch roster includes Zayda LaFrombois and Brooklyn Krahn of St. Ignatius.
Two teams from the area that extended their play into Sunday morning before being eliminated were the Ronan-based, Macao Jackson-coached 14U Mission Valley Thunder and the Ronan-based 12U Mission Mountain Mayhem.
Many teams competing in the tournament post their results of individual games on GameChanger. Unabridged scores can also be viewed online at tourneymachine for a limited duration.

State A softball: Rain delay postpones championship between Hamilton and Laurel

VIDEO

https://www.montanasports.com/high-school-sports/high-school-softball/state-a-softball-rain-delay-postpones-championship-between-hamilton-and-laurel

HAMILTON — The State A softball tournament's championship round has been postponed.

A rain delay halted state tournament play in Hamilton at 2 p.m. Saturday, just minutes before the championship game between Hamilton and Laurel was set to begin. The rain delay lasted 90 minutes before tournament officials announced the game would not be played Saturday.

Instead, Hamilton and Laurel will meet at Stodden Park in Butte at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The State A softball tournament is double elimination, meaning Laurel needs to win two in a row over Hamilton to take home the state title.

Hamilton advanced to the championship round from the winners' half of the bracket. The Broncs beat Frenchtown 15-7 in the undefeated semifinal Saturday morning.

Laurel run-ruled Frenchtown 11-1 in the third-place game right afterward to clinch its berth to the championship round.
