TRUE PUMP EPITAPH

April 12, 2012

Rob Robinson and I met and played on a men's team " All Reed Repair" in 1991.Rob was in need of a pitcher for his co-ed team and I began playing for what later turned into True Pump. Juan" who took over from Rob as Mgr".& Kris Marsh were also original team members. We played at Sheridan High School. We were having fun trying to beat the seasoned teams, usually we were runnerups. In 98' I took over as True Pump Mgr. from Juan.In return I let him take over as Mgr. of my men's team "Hammertime".Finally in the Summer of that year at Cornerstone we beat the defending champs,"The Breakroom" for our 1st title. We kept upgrading and as players quit, got injured or moved on ,I was able to pickup position players from my past men's teams and girls from Betsy Taylor. In 2000 we jumped from South Suburban to Foothills at Clement Park. We were ready to test the best and thought that we had the team to beat. We did just that as we terrorized that league thru 2007. After that ,most of the starters had retired or played sparingly. We played on with new players and subs until the Summer of 2010, when True Pump disolved.True Pump went(203-60) on my watch. Without our Sponsor " Jo True "we would never have achieved the success that was attained. We Pumpers will always be greatful for your support Jo, Thank You! With Winners like Rob Robinson,Bert Salter,Merriann Standifer,Charles Fleishman,Kris Marsh,Jim Sharpe,Betsy Taylor,Juan Marsh,Sue Vogt,Ron Papi,Suzanne Clark,Turtle Vogt you could dominate.WE DID. 21 League Titles,6 Runnerups, 52-3 fom 03'-05'... I will always be greatful for being your Pitcher (276-100) and cherish all of my teammates who I have been priviliged to share a lifetime of memories. God Bless! Captain Ron

Pumpers Done in 8-7 Loss!

August 6, 2010
True Pump down 8-0 put on a late game rally which fell just short, 8-7 to the West Berry Bashers . We were eliminated from the Summer league's season ending tourney. Our rivalry with the Bashers goes back years and tonight matchup was a typical close game that just happened to go their way in our last ever meeting. We finish the year at 4-7 after a slow start , and played well at the end of the year.It was a good effort as we made them earn it. Bert Salter and Sarah Babbitt led the way with each hitting a double and a triple. Tonights game was my last game with True Pump . We will all part ways and have fond memories of past glory days. Thanks! for your support Pumpers ... Captain Ron

Pump Routs Deco Security 7-0

July 30, 2010
Fresh from their loss to True Pump just 2 weeks ago , Deco Security was a no show for our 2010 finale. We were awarded with a 7-0 win by forfeit. That really sucks , 'cause we were gaining momentum for the season ending playoffs , which start this Friday. The Pumpers finished in 6th place at 4-6.We already know our matchup in the playoffs ... The Bashers...Will we play like we did in the 10-8 win or in the 15-0 loss? The loser is done for the 2010 season.

Pumpers Spank Bashers 10-8 !

July 23, 2010
We were embarrassed by these Bashers just a month ago by the score of 15-0 and my thinking was to just try and make it a close game. We were playing 3 subs in the ball game replacing MIA's Betsy , Mike and Kristine . The Bashers led early 5-2, as the heat of the 6:15pm early start seemed enough to put us away, but we hung in there and fought our way to the lead at 8-5 . We held them in check and scored a couple more to increase our lead to 10-5 as the Bashers took their last at bats. Sue Vogt made a couple of plays in LCF tonight and none finer than the one she caught at the fence for out #1. The Bashers did score 3 times , but Ron and Ronnie made the plays for the last two outs, as True Pump won this one 10-8. Sara Obermiller had 3 hits and scored on all of them , while Anna Smith also had 3 hits to go with 3 rbi's as our girls were the difference tonight.Bert Salter led the guys with a triple and 3 rbi's.It was a SWEET win!!!

Pumpers Take Care Of Business 8-7

July 17, 2010
Tonights game was decided by our infield.Deco Security pounded the ball on the ground and were eaten up by stellar plays by Bert, Ronnie and Ron. It was nip and tuck throught the game as our offense did enough to give us a 8-5 lead as Deco took their last at bat. They did score twice and have two baserunners on with 2 outs , but Ron snagged a liner to preserve the win. Everybody got on base tonight, led by Kris Marsh with 3 hits, and Sara ,Ronnie and Juan contributing 2 rbi's each. The win felt good.

Pumpers Denied 11-10

July 9, 2010
Although we had a couple of chances to take command of this game , we could not come up with the key hit when needed as Goof Troop led from the get go and held us off for the win. A two out 3-run homerun by Goof Troop in the 1st and a 5 run second put us behind 8-2. True Pump fought hard and aided by Juans 2 doubles and Berts Hr and 6 rbi's, we crept close at 11-9 with time running out . We stopped Goof Troop in their top half of the last inning and were primed to pull out a win , but despite a leadoff triple by Ron Papi , we would only score once to make the final score 11-10. It was a very good effort, but a tough loss as well.

No Where To Hide In 21-6 Defeat.

June 25, 2010
Another good start wasted by the inept Pumpers. We took an early 5-0 lead, and then with the aid of 4 walks and 2 errors by Captain Ron in the bottom of the 1st, the Saints & Sinners flew across home plate 11 times . It only got worse after that. The final tally was 21-6. We are giving up an average of 14 runs and scoring a tad above 6 .Our gals are struggling hitting .378 and have only scored 10 times thru 6 games. Our defense has been scored on in every inning but one in our 5 losses. That equals 1-5.

Defense Shows Up in Pumpers 6-3 Win

June 18, 2010
True Pump registered their 1st win of the season with a great effort on defense , beating Foul Play 6-3. We pounded out 17 hits in the game , and had we not stranded 11 runners it could of gotten ugly. We'll take the win.Bert Salter continues to hit going 4-4, and has yet to make an out this year. Juan batting leadoff drilled a triple to start the contest and went 3-4.The big man on campus tonight was 3rd baseman Ronnie Lopez who drove in 3 with a triple and a double while going 4-4.We played like Pumpers of old tonight. It was also another milestone reached for me as I won my 200th game as True Pump Mgr. Our record is 1-4 , but its a start. Mark and Sue filled in for Mike and Sara, who were MIA's tonight.

15-0 ?

June 11, 2010
We were dominated in every phase of the game tonight as the mercy rule was enacted during the 4th inning with the Bashers on top 15-0.When we eliminate defensive errors on routine plays and show some spark on offense, the after game beer might taste just a little bit better .We had 4 hits in this game and suffered only our second shutout in True Pump history, and yes the other shutout was a (2006) 7-0 loss to you guessed it ...The Bashers. We're 0-4 and it shows.

Wreckers Wreck Pumpers 20-10

June 4, 2010
I knew it wouldn't be easy against the leagues best team, the Wreckers. We needed to test them early and we did, spraying 12 hits and scoring 9 times to start the game. Despite the kick start lead , our bats went silent as we only put up 3 more hits the rest of the way. To compound things, our defense was pathetic, committing 10 errors which added up to a 20 -10 whipping. Such performances will never win you a game , regardless of the competition.

Week # 2 Rained Out

May 14, 2010

Shorthanded Pumpers Go Down 13-6

May 21, 2010
This weeks opponent Print Connection , a.k.a.( Power Imaging ) is hard enough to beat straight up , but at game time a player no show, resulted in a batting lineup change , and no right fielder. Print Connection was quick to expose our shortcomings and put us away 13-6. We did show a few sparks on offense with Mike, Bert and Sara having multiple hits.We drew close at 7-6 but having to take the extra out for the missing batter was huge as we could not sustain momentum. Hopefully we'll have 10 starters for our next game.

Pumpers Drop Opener 14-11

May 7, 2010
True Pump drew a 9:15pm game against Goof Troop with no expectations except to weather the cool night and see what we have this year. Our opponent trashed us last year 25-9 and things were looking dim as Goof Troop took an 11-4 lead at the top of 4. We battled back with a bases loaded walk by Juan , a 2 run double by Kris and a 2 run game tying single by Ron . With the game knotted at 11 ,Goof Troop scored 3 times in the fifth as the clock expired. We did have last at bats and did manage to load the bases, but didn't score and lost 14-11. In their 1st games as Pumpers Anna Smith and Ronnie Lopez had 3 hits apiece. We do have potential, but we will have to minimize our errors and make things happen. The bottom line tonight was the 11 Pumpers stranded on base. We look forward to next weeks return of SS Bert Salter ,who was MIA in tonights contest.
