Welcome to the Home of the
Westfield Babe Ruth
A letter to new incoming players for the 2019 Season
We have great news to share with you. If you haven’t already heard Westfield Babe Ruth has been selected to host the 2019 Thirteen Year Old Babe Ruth World Series in August 2019. We are excited to bring the World Series back to Westfield after a successful event in 2016.
We want to encourage all of you to participate in Westfield Babe Ruth for the 2019 season. There is no better place to play baseball games than at Bullens Field. We rate this as the #1 baseball field in Western Massachusetts. We are fortunate to be able to call Bullens Field the home of Greater Westfield Babe Ruth.
There has been some misinformation circulating about the age for players for the 2019 season. Any player aging out of Little League as a thirteen year old will be eligible for Babe Ruth Tryouts. This means players between to May 1, 2005 through August 31, 2006 are eligible for Babe Ruth as a thirteen year old for the 2019 season.
We know there are alternate places to play baseball but we want to make sure you consider Westfield Babe Ruth for the 2019 season. We will have indoor training sessions throughout the winter months for all thirteen year olds to get ready for next season and to build a strong team environment for the World Series team.
Signups and Tryout Information
As you move from the Westfield Little League Baseball Program onto the large diamond in 2019 you have a choice to try out for Westfield Babe Ruth or Westfield Senior League. You may try out for one or both of these excellent programs. Due to playing time and team commitments you should play in only one league during a season.
What are the Differences in the Leagues?
The Babe Ruth program is somewhat more competitive than the Senior League program. While both leagues require tryouts, the tryouts for Babe Ruth are to place/draft players to teams in an effort to make each team as closely matched as possible. Once a player is chosen for Babe Ruth they stay in that league through their playing career based on their league age.
Tryouts for the Babe Ruth program are held in early February, in advance of the Senior League tryouts which are usually held in early March. Dates for tryouts will be announced at sign ups.
What if I Don’t Make Babe Ruth?
While all players are encouraged to try out for Babe Ruth up to 30 thirteen year olds are selected. The Babe Ruth program can only take enough players to complete the rosters of our planned six teams for the 2019 season.
How Do Sign Ups Work?
Both Babe Ruth and Senior League hold their sign ups together. This year they will be held as follows:
Friday, Jan. 11th - 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Amelia Park
Saturday, January 12th 10:00 AM – Noon at Amelia Park
Players must sign up for both Senior League and Babe Ruth if they wish to try out for Babe Ruth. You will be asked to pay the Senior League registration fee at signups. If you are chosen for Babe Ruth the Senior League program will transfer the registration fee you paid to Babe Ruth. The fee to play in Babe Ruth for the 2019 season is a $150.00 (Registration fee of $100.00 plus mandatory raffle ticket sales of $50.00.)
You may sign up for Westfield Babe Ruth on line at www.westfieldbaberuth.org
Registration for Senior League on line can be found at www.westfieldlittleleague.org
You may also come to our in person registration (dates and times noted above) to sign up for Westfield Babe Ruth and Westfield Senior League!
Playing Westfield Babe Ruth baseball is a great value. Last season our teams played more than 35 games at Bullens and at area fields during the summer in the Pioneer Valley Summer League. We have highly qualified and trained coaches for our teams that makes playing Babe Ruth Baseball a learning and fun place to be. In 2018 our league fee was $100.00 (after raffle ticket sales) for the regular season. Compare that to some of the area travel team costs! There are dozens of players now playing college baseball at Divisions 1, 2 and 3 levels at area colleges that played Westfield Babe Ruth baseball. 100% of the players on the WHS varsity roster in 2018 played one or more seasons as a part of a Westfield Babe Ruth team and there are also many more former Babe Ruth players playing varsity baseball at Westfield Technical Academy, St. Mary’s High School and for Southwick High School.
Don’t Miss Out on the Fun!
Even if you have played on other teams last season we strongly encourage you to consider Westfield Babe Ruth for 2019. We want to put the most competitive thirteen year old team possible on the field for the World Series. You will be representing your home town along competing with nine other regional champion teams from across the country on Bullens Field. Come play with your friends!
