Colby Lessmann #26

Lessmann was a 1992 graduate of Sioux City, Iowa's North High School where he received All-Conference, All-League and Honorable Mention All-State honors as a catcher both his junior and senior seasons. Lessmann played two seasons for Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, and then transferred to the University of South Dakota (USD) in Vermillion, South Dakota in 1994 where he excelled for another two years. He graduated from USD in 1996. Lessmann led USD in hitting his Junior season and received All North Central Conference honors as a catcher his senior season. Lessmann also holds several baseball records at USD.

Lessmann's amateur career as a catcher began in 1992 with the Sioux City Saints and continued there until 1999 when he joined the Vermillion Red Sox. In 2000, Lessmann played for the Pierre-Ft.Pierre Twin City Merchants, but returned to Vermillion in 2001. Lessmann has played with the Red Sox since 2001 and was a member of their 2003 and 2004 Class "B" State Championship teams. Lessmann was named to the All-Tournament Team in 2004 and held the second highest average in the tournament. Lessmann also tied a tournament record in 2005 by going 5 for 5 in the opening game of the tournament. Lessmann ultimatly missed the tournament batting title by one hit. In 2005, the veteran Lessmann played his 14th Season in amateur baseball, as he caught the full season for the Red Sox. While his Red Sox were eliminated and did not participate in the State Tournament, Lessmann was picked up by the Renner, SD, Roadrunners, as a starting catcher. Lessmann's team finished 4th in the Tournament.
