The Atkinson Coaches Clinics.

Mission: To Coach those who are in charge of coaching our young men and young ladies, to provide the skills and understanding to coach a game of failure to kids who have no understanding of the concept. To provide the tools of the game to those who are going to pass the tools on to others.
Objective: To give every coach a new perspective and possible skills and drills that they can use to teach others. To have every coach that attends a clinic walk away learning something new they can use.
Tools of the Clinic: Baseball gear, field, gymnasium, Coaching staff, open minds and patience

Lessons Taught at Clinics: Lessons vary based on age groups of those you are teaching, but the concepts are the same. The list below are just some of the topics we cover:

• Coaching to each players experience level

• The fundamentals of teaching ground ball mechanics
• Teaching proper throwing mechanics and how to get players to play catch correctly
• Fielding and catching balls in the air regardless of if it is hit or thrown
• Understanding the rules and why it is important to teach your kids the rules
• How to make practice fun and not have the players lose interest
• Teaching how to properly correct a player and still using positive re-enforcement
• The fundamentals of the mental game and how to calm your players
• Fundamentals of pitching and the important signs coaches should watch for
• Catching fundamentals and how not to burn out your catchers
• The importance of well-rounded players and having young athletes play multiple positions

The Staff: Headed up by Coach Atkinson who is the current head coach at El Camino High school, and who is a former collegiate and high school umpire. Coach Atkinson has been a part of three championship staffs including the 2013 CIF champion Mt. Carmel Sundevils. Bryce Carrier is Coach Atkinson's assistant and the coach in charge of player development. Coach Carrier is a former collegiate ball player and was the head coach of the El Camino Junior varsity team last year when he led their team to a 26-7 record which is a schools best. All of this staff is NFHS Certified, including concussion protocol certified as well as first aid and CPR certified. All have received the proper background checks and are all currently coaching at the high school level or above.
The Facilities: El Camino high school in Oceanside has a great baseball facility, with two tunnel batting cages, a full 60-90 high school field and plenty of room surrounding the diamond. Coach Atkinson also has access to a classroom and to the gymnasium if weather dictates.

Our Coaching Clinics are specific to our clients, while we do have open coaching clinics that anyone can attend, we also have private coaching clinics that you can book just for your league. All Clinics are group participation and are held with stations that you will rotate through. There will be small lecture periods but most of the training is done on the move. The best way to know what a player is feeling so you can teach them how to move, is simply to do what you can yourself to feel the motions.
