Bears survive Patriot Blasts
Tate Yergey’s outfield-collision triple highlighted a 3-run sixth inning that broke a 5-5 tie as the Bears got by Post 217 (the Oley-Topton Patriots), 8-6. The Bears overcame 2 Oley-Topton home runs, including a grand slam by starting pitcher Daymond Zweizig, to win the game. Patriot leadoff hitter Tyler Wetzel homered in the third inning to give Oley-Topton a 1-0 lead, but the Bears rallied for 5 runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-1 lead, Nolan Kline’s highlighting the rally with a bases-loaded, 3-run double. Zweizig’s slam tied the game in the fifth, but the Bears rallied in the bottom of the sixth. With two out and none on base, rookie Broc Babb singled and stole second to set up Chris Davis’s tie-breaking rbi-single. Yergey then followed with a prodigious drive on which Patriot outfielders Drew Swire and Joe Fatzinger collided.
