Fielding / Hitting
Mike believes that helping children to become “The best they can be” is what being a teacher and a coach is all about. Having worked with children of all ages and skill levels, Michael feels he can be a positive influence for them, both mentally and physically. Mike's qualifications and experience have helped to develop his strong coaching philosophy.
Mike attended college and played baseball at Penn State Allegheny from 1988 to 1991 and then became a professional educator in the West Mifflin Area School District where he has remained for the past 22 years. Many of the players Mike has coached went on to the MLB or minor league programs including:
Neil Walker of the Pittsburgh Pirates
JJ Hoover of the Cincinnatti Reds
Andy Goff of the Arizona Diamondbacks
Joe Leonard of the Atlanta Braves
Warren Schaeffer of the Colorado Rockies
Mike has had the opportunity to coach and help develop the skills of over 300 Collegiate players, many of whom played at the Division I level. He was fortunate enough to coach the 2000 Eastern Regional Champion 18u Palomino team which went on to compete at the Palomino World Series hosted in Santa Anna California. In 2003 and 2004 Michael coached NABF 18u Eastern Regional teams to two National Championships after competing against the top programs in the nation. From 2006 to 2009 his WPEBL teams consistently held the regular season champions title. Over the past 10 years, Mike has been an Associate Scout for the Florida Marlins, the Cincinnati Reds, and the Kansas City Royals. Through all of this great experience, he’s continued to work and develop local youth and high school players.
