Orwigsburg Memorial Day Parade – Monday, May 27, 2019

Updated 04/23/2019

It’s been tradition that the OAYL T-Ball teams walk in the Orwigsburg Memorial Day Parade.  The players walk as teams and each team gets a turn carrying the OAYL banner.

Gather at Orwigsburg Memorial Building parking lot at 7:45am.  Parade starts at 8am.

The route is typically begins at the Memorial, down to the blinker, turn right onto E Market thru the Square to Franklin, turn left, then left onto Independence, and left on S Warren back to Square

Wear your team shirts & hats (Coaches too)

Feel free to bring or add any patriotic accessories

NO GLOVES

NO CLEATS (wear sneakers)

At the conclusion of the parade, there will be a brief Memorial Day ceremony on the Square.  We won’t be a part of the ceremony, but I encourage you to stay.  This is a good opportunity to show our thanks and support for our armed service members past and present, especially those that gave their life in service to our country.

It’s also a great opportunity to show our thanks to our League team sponsors by parading around in our uniforms.

Hope to see you all there!

2019 OPENING DAY

Sunday, June 2, 1p-4:30p, Orwigsburg T-Ball Field

Updated 06/1/19

ATTENTION: 2019 OPENING DAY SCHEDULE FOR JUNE 2ND HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO JUNE 9TH @ 1p-4:30p.

Opening Day is a fun-filled day of activities and competition.

NO baseball games will be played, so kids – DO NOT bring gloves, helmets, or bats.  No need to wear chest protectors/heart guards.

Players and Coaches – Wear Your Uniforms!

PLAYERS SHOULD ARRIVE AT 12:45pm.  Our Program will begin promptly at 1:00pm, and your child definitely does not want to miss the beginning.  Many kids think Opening Day is the best part of the season.

Programs will be available at the Concession Stand during the event.  Within the program will be the schedule of events.  During Opening and Closing Ceremonies, only players and coaches are permitted on the field.  However, during the other events and competitions, you are more than welcome to follow your players as they progress through day.  But please be cognizant of your surroundings – Players will be running the bases and balls will be thrown.  REMINDER:  These are 4-7 year olds – ACCURACY is still developing.  If someone yells "heads up", your best bet is to not do that.

Your child can bring their own drinks/snacks if they wish.  However, our Concession Stand will be open throughout the event for purchases of drinks, snacks, candy, pizza, and hot dogs.  And each T-Ball Player will receive 1 Free Hot Dog & 1 Free Drink.  [Please note the Concession Stand may close momentarily during the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.]

Built into the schedule is a 15-min Concession/Break period.  This would be a great time for your player to get their free hot dog & drink, and will also be a good time to get autographs by a Reading Fightin Phils mascot.

Also built into the schedule are two sessions in the Bounce House.  While your team is in the Bounce House, siblings are welcome to join the players.  But PLEASE remind the older siblings to watch out for and HELP the younger Players and kids.  After all, this day is for the Players.  It is also the time when we need 2 parents from that team to man the Concession Stand.  Please volunteer.

The Team Relay Race toward the end of the day is a Team competition with the winning Team receiving a free pizza party.  There are also 4 individual competitions throughout the day with winners receiving medals:  Speed Run, Long Throw, Speed Throw, and Accuracy Throw.  The top 3 girls and the top 3 boys in each category will receive medals.  HOWEVER, your child will only receive 1 medal even if they finish 1st in each category.  Our goal is to spread the medals around as much as possible.  Also note that NOT everyone will receive a medal at the event.  Don't get discouraged.  During our Year-End Closing Ceremonies in June, EVERYBODY receives a trophy.

At the end of the day and after the Players have had an opportunity to take one, siblings make take home 1 balloon.

The purpose of the day and the League is to have fun!  Hopefully everybody will!

IF INCLEMENT WEATHER OR POOR FIELD CONDITIONS EXIST, Opening Day might be postponed.  The League will try to make the GO-NO GO decision the Friday before the event if the forecast is poor.  Any postponements will be posted on this website and via Twitter.  You will also hear directly from your coach.  If you do NOT hear from your coach or do not see a postponement notice, assume that Opening Day is on as planned.  If there is conflicting information provided, listen to your coach.

Rain Date #1 – Sun, June 9, 1p-4:30p

Closing Ceremony / Player Recognition Day – Sunday, June 30th

Updated 05/28/19

***Our movie this year will be Toy Story 4 – free for all in attendance***

Our last event of the season is our Closing Ceremony / Player Recognition Day. This year it will be held on SUNDAY, June 30 at the Hamburg Strand Theater (6 S Fourth St, Hamburg).  Doors open at noon with program beginning at 12:30 or shortly thereafter.  Players and coaches – wear your uniforms and regular sneakers – NO GLOVES.  Each player in uniform will receive one free popcorn and one free drink as they arrive.  The concession stand will be open and available to all others.  The players can sit with family, with other teammates, or with friends from other teams.  After everyone files in the theater and finds a seat, we will have Trophy presentations for the players by team followed by a movie.  The event should conclude before 3:30pm.

If you cannot make Player Recognition Day, please make arrangements with your coach to receive your trophy sometime after the event.

Please plan to arrive between 12:00 and 12:30pm.  It will take some time for everybody to get their concessions and seated.  Please also allow time to find on-street parking.  We hope to have trophy presentations begin shortly after 12:30pm so that the movie can begin by 1:00pm.

Hopefully you and your entire team can make it!
