SUPPORT SOMERSWORTH YOUTH BASEBALL- VOLUNTEER!Somersworth Youth Baseball League is operated solely by the help of volunteers.The majority of help comes from the parents of the little leaguers, but you don't need to be a parent to volunteer your time!
There are numerous areas where Somersworth Youth League can use help - Coaching, umpiring, concession, fundraising and event coordination are just few areas where you can help!
In addition to volunteering as a board member, Somersworth Little League also needs volunteers to help coordinate the following responsibilities:
Sign/Team Sponsors- Most of the work for this responsibility is done between November - March. Companies need to be solicited to sponsor teams and or to display signs at the Major League field. Many team sponsors return, so a lot of it is paperwork, but we are hoping to increase our sign sponsors this year and maybe do a couple of different sign programs. You will also need to coordinate with the team coordinator to find out how many teams we will have at each level.
Uniforms - Most of the work for this responsibility is completed January - mid-April. Basically, you need to inventory what we have for shirts (numbers, colors and sizes) and hats (teams and colors) and then determine what needs to be ordered to complete each team. You will need to work with the team sponsor coordinator to find out which sponsors have returned and any new sponsors that have signed up. You will also need to work with the team coordinator to find out how many teams we have at each level.
Calendar Raffle- Most of the work for this responsibility is completed October - January. This is the time you would need to coordinate getting donations for the calendars. This does not mean you need to get them all on your own, but organize who will solicit for what and continue to follow up. The calendars need to be completed and printed before the first registration night. The second part of this responsibility is pulling and contacting the winners and mailing or delivering the prizes, which happens in June.
Concession Manager- Maintains the operation of the concession stand, organizes the purchase of concession products and work with team parents to schedules volunteers to work the concession at league events. Collects and reviews concession related offers including coupons, discounts and bulk-purchasing opportunities.
Opening Day - We are looking for more than one person to help coordinate opening day ceremonies. Most of the work for this begins at the beginning of March and ends on opening day. This includes everything from reaching out to Chili's to getting flowers for the 12 year old's parents.
Awards - The work for this begins mid-May and includes both the awards for the teams and the sponsor plaques. It includes coordinating with our sponsor Awards Plus ensuring medals and trophies are delivered in time for final games.
Minor Level Commissioners - We are looking for people to be liaisons between the minor leagues and the board of directors. The board may have kid playing in the different levels, but cannot focus the time needed due to other responsibilities. The tasks will vary by level but include scheduling practices, Little Minor Round Robin day, year-end ice cream treats at the t-ball level, etc.
All these positions will work closely with the board of directors.
