Many Thanks
I just wanted to extend my thanks and appreciation to all of the SVBL volunteers who make our little but mighty league operate without a glitch.
From the team reps to the website admins there is a reason we are successful. It's all because of the SVBL team first attitude.
For this I am extremely grateful. Without all of you pulling together I could not be a little boy every Saturday and and aching old man on Sundays.
Congrats guys and thanks again,
JT
Phillies Win 2008 Championship
The day started out rough for both teams as the weather caused many routine big hop balls to turn into balls that skipped, stayed down and scoot under the gloves of a few players for both teams. The two teams traded leads in the early goings. The Phillies first put up a 3 spot in the 1st with the A's countering with 1 also in the 1st and a 3spot of thier own in the 2nd to take the lead 4-3.
The Phillies took the lead for good with 4 in the 4th.
Pauly the Mossiah Mossman started for the Phillies and managed to keep the A's at bay. After 5 it was Phillies 7 A's 4. Johnny Willis eneterd the 6th with a 3 run lead and the Phillies were able to extend that to an 11-5 lead after 8.
The Phillies tacked on a run in the top of the 9th. Good thing as the A's banged back to close up the score to 12-7 but that is all she wrote.
JC paid the Phillies the biggest compliment last week when he stated the Phillies were consistent.
The Phillies generally do not give games away nor do they leave too many men on base too often. Yes the Phillies are beatable, you just have to work hard and most of all don't beat yourself.
The big bat for the Phillies in the Phinals was Mr RBI Sweet Lou Chisholm with 8 RBI in 2 games against the A's. That is just nuts.
Congrats to the A's on another fine year.
thanks,
JT
New Batting Champ
Congrats to Carlos Almeida of the Rockies for winning his 1st batting title. Carlos hit in 14 games and still maintained an average of .571. Carlos also led the league in doubles with 7 and was one of the hardest players to K with only 1. He also had a HR to his credit.
Congrats to the new Champ!!!!
2008 Archived Stats
1st things 1st. My eternal gratitude to all of the web site reps for inputting the stats over the year. Great job guys.
The 2008 stats have been cleared out, downloaded into excel and posted at the left side under Archived stats. If you do not have excel and wish to obtain a copy in word.doc please let me know by dropping me a note at jc.thomas@sympatico.ca. I would be more than happy to send them to you.
The reason I have done this is so that we may be able do playoff stats if the team wishes to. It is optional. Purely out of intrest only. The web host has yet to build in the option of playoff stats only.
Thanks and I hope this builds some more intrest,
JT
