Coach Carter began pursuing his love for teaching youth the game of basketball in 1984, with his first team being a 7th grade boys team, playing in the Montgomery County Recreation Department, in Wheaton, MD. That team won the Potomac Boys Club Holiday Tournament and subsequently their grade division. Thereafter, Coach Carter coached his first boys AAU team, 15U, in 1985. His team came within a game of winning the Potomac region to qualify for Nationals. Since then, Coach Carter has coached several teams, both boys and girls. These days, Coach Carter can be found on the bench coaching in his Girls Middle School program titled "Junior Lady Hubs", which plays in the fall, in the Mid Maryland league. Though Coach no longer actively coaches AAU, his passion is insuring that the youth of Washington County are provided the same exposure opportunities of youth in neighboring counties, in the hopes of gaining college scholarships, in all sports. Unfinished Business Youth Sports Group is the bridge in providing that exposure. Since it's modest beginnings back in 2010, formerly known as Unfinished Business Basketball, UBYSG currently has a presence in basketball, football and girls softball. Coach Carter is currently actively working to bring wrestling online, as well.

Coach Carter's wife, an accomplished Cheerleader Coach in her own right, Coach Rhonda Carter (aka Coach Carter) has led a successful cheer-leading program, as the Head Cheerleader Coach for North Hagerstown High School, here in Washington County, for the last seven years (as of this writing in 2015). Her teams have helped raise the bar in how a county school cheer-leading team prepares and competes. Her teams have routinely taken extended trips, to competitive environments on the east coast. By doing so, her teams have been regarded as some of the most diverse, in Washington County. Coach Carter, has also found time to raise two upstanding and successful children, in their own right, both academically and athletically.

Coach Carter's daughter, Imani, was a consistent member of the National Honor Society, during her High School Years. Imani stills ranks in the MVAL Antietam Conference Track & Field Championships record books as part of the most dominant relay teams ever, winning the 2010 MVAL Championships with a time of 1.43.40 in the 4x200(a record that still stands as of this writing), is graduating from the University of Maryland, College Park, with a major in Psychology, in May 2015. Imani plans to pursue her Masters Degree, in the fall of 2015.

Coach Carter's son, Raughn recently earned a scholarship to play Division 1 football @ St. Francis University, in the fall of 2015. Raughn earned the 2015 "Extra Effort Award" by being named to the 2015 First Team All Washington County Football Team, as a Defensive Back.

Coach Carter credits his wife and own children's success to having not just talent, but having great attitudes, while possesing high character!

"My wife teams have benefited from her passion to cheer in college, when she was a student, while having the integrity to inspect what she expected from them. She would never put expectations on her teams that she felt she could not achieve herself. This creates an environment of "all in" as they chase perfection because the coach share's in the pursuit".

"My wife has always taught our children to "Expect More-Get More". This approach forces the mental piece, to rival knowledge and skill piece.

Coach Carter hopes to help instill these beliefs in many of our area youth, through excellent coaches and mentors, that currently reside in the UBYSG organization. He is a regular visitor to local elementary, middle and high schools, to inspect what he expects of those student athletes within UBYG.

Coach Carter is credited with a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP),for those student athletes that may fall below the organizations academic expectations of maintaining a B average in school.

"Until every youth in Washington County is able to attend college, through sports, we have Unfinished Business."
