Commonly known as T-ball, the Shetland division helps to develop the basic fundamentals important to baseball while maintaining an early interest in sports. Teams practice and play 2 times per week. Games are up to 5 innings long. Coach-pitch is introduced, but players still hit from the tee if hitting off the coach-pitch is unsuccessful. Outs are recorded, and the score is kept, introducing a mild form of competition. Coaches are required to rotate players to several defensive positions so that kids learn multiple aspects of the game. All children play equally. We had 18 teams in the 2007 season.
Our Shetland All Star Team has won the District Tournament for 7 consecutive years, won the Florida State Tournament in 2006 (Runner Up in 2007), and they have advanced to the World Series the last 4 years (2004, 2005, 2006, & 2007).
Post-season: Two All-Star Teams are chosen at the end of the season. The teams play in the Dizzy Dean and PONY District Tournaments (we are 7 time defending champions) and can advance to the Florida State tournament and World Series.
