D & R canal - 15 miler
Troop 56 D & R Canal hike - 15 miles
Saturday Nov 28th 2020
This hike will be on the Delaware and Raritan Canal trail.
Because of the COVID restrictions we will not be car pooling. Each family will be responsible for getting their scout/family to the and from the hike.
This “hike of 15 continuous miles in 1 day” which is a requirement for the (Eagle Required) Hiking merit badge is only offered by the Troop about once every 2 years. THEREFORE any Scout who wishes to earn his Hiking merit badge should strongly consider attending this hike.
All scouts, parents and siblings are encouraged to attend.
We will be meeting at the South Bound Brook Locks parking area at 7:30am and starting the hike at 7:45 am. We will start hiking south from the parking lot to Amwell Road (Rt 514) and then back to our starting point. Our return time is dependent on many variables, we estimate a return to the parking lot around 3:30pm
The section of the D&R Canal Trail we will be hiking is a “natural surface: (ie Dirt), former “tow-path” that parallels the canal. The trail is FLAT!
All hikers must pack water (at least a liter), bag lunch and snacks. Dress appropriately for the weather and conditions. Sturdy, comfortable, well fitting hiking boots are strongly recommended for this activity - sneakers are NOT. Cotton is also not welcome. For questions regarding gear, please consult your Scout handbook and ask your Patrol Leaders.
**Please note: All adults attending must have current Youth Protection Certification Training.
For any additional information please contact Mr. Caparoso by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
