PLEASE NOTE:

Courtesy Runners can only be used once they have attained a base legally. Courtesy runners CANNOT be used starting from the fence.

What is wrong with using a runner if a player is hurt?

Go play on Wednesday night.

Since I play in both leagues, I would bet that any team in the Wednesday night league could beat half the teams in the USPL

We’ve had some pretty outrageous claims on this forum over the years, but Duke, that has to be one of the most bizarre.

A team from the Wed night league couldn’t beat Griffiths/Arms/Grocer (sorry guys!), much less really good teams. Unless, of course, you insist on playing your crazy rules like “no walks”, ”no throwing out runners going to first from the outfield”, “unlimited courtesy runners (especially from home)”, “designated home-run hitter”, “no sliding”, etc.

Proof that any comment can stir up the gullible on this site. However, I'll play along for awhile.

A couple weekends ago the Wednesday night league hosted the "Pride of Unionville" tournament. Both Remax and DST Output put their teams in (well, let's say 95% of each team). Neither team won ? Remax went 0-4 ?

Don't count out experience and talent of alot of ball players in the Wednesday night league. If your from Unionville and have played baseball for more than 10 years, you'll know some great ball players that play on Wednesday.

Steve Kirkland, the Ambrose brothers, Rick Valenti, Mark Harris, Bruce Mehuys, Dan Burrows, Doug Terry, Mike O'Callaghan, Chris Stamkos, Mike McCaw, Russ Gregory, Dan Daoust, Greg Funk, Steve Connell, Mario Giallonardo, Steve George, Jay Bernholtz, etc.

Now, loosen up and enjoy the USPL without putting down other leagues.

Wow. All those guys that Duke mentioned are good players, and I’d say that back in the day, they were outstanding players. But to compare those guys with a bunch of young studs in the USPL may be pushing it.

Unfortuneatley gimmie you need to settle down a little. i have played with each one of those guys mentioned from league play to nationals to world chamionships and just like tiger woods and nicklaus, crosby and gretzky, different times and better technology. you have do give guys their credit no matter where and when they played. this new generation of ball players may be fast and can hit further but that is because the balls and bats are different, also the new generation is not as sport smart as the older generation. i have played with both as i am a younger player and there is no comparison there, period. as for rules the walk rule is a great rule, too many guys in the league wait to walk just to get on base, and an intentional walk for no reason? let the guy hit! that rule i will give the weds league.
gentlemen, no more comparisons, differnt times, lets look to futre.
now back to important issues.

You are correct Jimmy, why does your team only play with 14 guys? Please help me out.

I meant no disrespect in my comments. I, too, have played with many of those players and they are all great guys. But, here’s my point. Could Chris Stamkos beat Craig Larmer in a first-to-third race now? Back in the day, maybe… in 2008, no chance. Could Dan Daoust fire a strike from the warning track to home like Ryan Steane can? Back in the day, maybe… in 2008, no chance.

Duke claimed that the Wednesday guys could beat half the teams in the USPL. You’re right, jimmie… it’s kind of like comparing Bonds to Ruth, Tiger to Nicklaus. But given what I’ve seen from both leagues… in 2008, no chance.

Gimme,

I have accomplished my goal. Instead of just a flippant comment about the Wednesday night league, you have acknowledged that there are still some good players there. Let's face it, there are good and bad players in both leagues !

You picked Larmer and Steane. What about yourself up against Stamkos and Daoust?

Most people assume that the Wed night league is for older guys. Not necessarily. Some guys want to know what night of the week they are playing (Wednesday at Crosby)due to family and work obligations.

Duke (older now, but can still compete) !!

Apparently Labtec and New Wing are Superstars. I wish I knew who they were so I could come out and watch them. Maybe they could get together and put on a "Superstars" clinic for both leagues ?

lol

Dukester, I can't say that I agree with all your comments, but you have nothing to prove to these clowns. Move on.

OBLIGATORY ANGRY RESPONSE- corkscrew/duke you better watch out for me. you better hope you aren't the pitcher for your team or i am going to shoot the middle ....oh wait...i haven't hit a ball to the right of third base in many years...well you better hope you aren't the catcher or I will hit a pop up that you can't get to and you will look foolish in front of everyone. oh yea- i am pissed. How was that? Do you boys need a runner?

Corkscrew....

Duke was at least an original artist. No one likes a copy cat. Dont try to be something your not. I can respect someone who has the right to run their mouth those who can back it up.

First things first, I have been a member of this league for a few years now. I have seen my team go from a rock bottom to one of the premiere teams in the league. Unfortunately due to my new work schedule i have not been able to make as many games this year as i have in the past. One thing i know is that i am proud to say that I was drafted in this league. Most of the people in the other league would not be drafted in this league.
Some teams have guys that can hit the ball farther than you drive km in a day. Yeah we have fun, losing is not fun, and therefore we are in it to win it. So if anyone has an issue with the way some teams carries themselves and how it rubs off on other people in the league, get bent.
