It looks like it'll be right down to the wire for those final few playoff spots for Championship round. There are many teams on the bubble, and the last few games will be pretty interesting.

Could you remind us again the formula used for breaking ties? As well, I seem to recall that if there is a tie for 10th, rather than use any calculation, the tied teams are involved in a shortened play-in game. Is that still right?

Good luck to all.

Come on Mr. Umpire, you’re supposed to know those rules. Here is the USPL tie breaker rule:

Rule #26. For teams tied in a division at the end of the regular season, the tie-breaker formula is:

1. Head-to-head record (points)
2. Record (points) within the division
3. Record (points) against common opponents on other division
4. Run differential in head-to-head games
5. Coin toss, unless tie is for last Championship place or last Consolation place, in which case a 5-inning sudden death game will be played at the end of the regular season.

Yikes, depending on results of games over the next couple of days, we may need to invoke the 5-inning sudden death playoff game to establish 10th place.

Gimme,

Is that a rule or a fable, with regards to the sudden death playoff? The only reason I ask is that I do not see it in the rules...(one of my missing tools is sight)

Rule #26 on the posted USPL rules (look on page 4 or there abouts).

Can’t remember it ever being applied, though.

Ok thanks...it seems that would only come into play if the first 4 tie breakers cannot settle the tie. Its the last option, and its written to prevent a coin toss from eliminating two teams fighting for the last spot, who are tied after the first 4 tie breakers.

I want to see School lose tonight and MAS and Harding both winning just to give the scheduling comittee some massive migraines.

3TS, you know, as I re-read, perhaps you're right. We'll maybe have to look to Chris G. for some clarification.

Hey Adrenaline,

Perhaps your comments should be thought through! Try and restrict your offbase comments to be positive in nature. Chris has done a fantastic job and doesn`t need any headaches, especially from you.....
