Surprises so far this year.....

1. Tar - Who would have thought the reigning champs would go from first to worst. When was the last time this happened in the history of the USPL?

2. Griffiths – Is this the year they finally make it to the big show? It’s been a while since they played a game at Crosby on Saturday.

3. School – When was the last time they weren’t in the top 10? It’s been a tough year for the talented team. Hopefully Nick can make it back next year and get them back into winning form

4. Remax – You can’t count the ‘old’ vets out. Anything can happen with these guys playing on Saturday in the Championship round. A few people wrote them off at the beginning of the year.

5. Arms – 6 loses in a row, earlier in the year has them in the middle of the pack. Will the young guns show up on playoff weekend?

6. Wing It – They came out of the gate strong and continue to put up wins. If they win their remaining 4 games, they can be first overall. The question is, do they really scare anyone?

7. Bistro – Who would have thought with the first 5 picks in the top 20, and such a talented draft year, they would be in the bottom on the pack again?

8. When was the last time with 4 games to go in some cases, there were 7 teams already mathematically eliminated?

9. It’s going to be a fight to the finish for MAS, Flakeboard, Griffiths, Remax, Plumbing and the Arms jockeying for position. What team will finish 11th, looking in from the outside?

10. Will the mighty Grocer fold like a cheap suit this year? I have a feeling this could be a good year for them….Guess we’ll have to wait and see

Good luck to everyone in the playoff's !

Great review of the year October but you did not comment on the best team currently in the league. Think about it, you will love to do what we do.

How can you have a year in review and overlook three of the top five teams. No observations on Crupi, DST and TL, why? Maybe you play on one of those teams and you are petrified to review their seasons.

Wing It is rated way too high. Sure there are traditionally ok, good guys, and their current talent is elevated, however following a legend like Remax has been proven by history to be a VERY tough task to do.

Slezak..I have to disagree.

The way they are playing right now, they are the team to beat..There is no team in the league that scares me, or I think we can't beat..BUT..If there was...Wing it is at the top of the list.

If you beat them..you had a good game..and they didn't...simple as that...

Great group and character guys..led by a very solid group of vets..Mike, Jeff and Peter! I just can't figure out how they get better every year without picking up a single guy (other then Brian Sneak who already played for them) so that doesn't count...good for them!

Good luck in the playoff's everyone!

Should be interesting !

Congratulations to the MAS men for making the championship round for the first time in five years.
I learned a lesson the other day. Drinking 12 beers in 3 hours without eating first makes you really drunk.

Hey Carp-O'tunnel vision...wait a second...

There is still a lot of ball to be played. MAS is not guaranteed a playoff spot, yet.

They had a good year and have improved a lot, but, they are depending on others at this point. They may still only make it into the Cony's.

Even though in past years their 27 points would have been more than enough for one for the top 10 spots...this is a different year. A lot more competitive, a lot more parity, so, " IT AIN'T OVER TILL IT'S OVER."

My point is that your 12 beer celebration was a little premature...which only means that you get to do it again, once their spot, is actually secured...Good on ya!

Actually, there really ISN'T alot of ball to play!

MAS is in. The key is the Arms/Griffiths game. If one or the other loses, they can’t catch MAS… if they tie, they can’t catch MAS.

Congrats again to the Wing It team and specifically for their first time division winners. When I looked at the standings last night I realized that the same teams win the division every year. So congrats again to the Wing Men.

Let me follow your logic, sgniw. You say that if the Wing It has won the division when they are behind VG by one point. How exactly does that work. If you're claiming that they'd be able to get more points by the end of the year that is OK. You can argue that Wing It has "better young talent" than VG.

I just got back from the cottage and read this shyte. Hey October we will not fold up like a cheap suit. We have been number one for most of the season and will be the same in the playoffs.

So it comes down to the last couple of games for “The Team Who Drafted the Best Player in the Last 20 Years” and the “Six of Eight Former Champs”.

After choking against The Arms (up 7 runs with 6 outs to go), Griffiths needs to beat Bistro and hope for an 0-2 finish from the Remax boys.

If Remax wins either one of its last 2 games (no easy feat considering they’re playing the top 2 teams), they’re in. And then it’s adios Griffiths.

We may know the outcome after Tuesday’s games, or it may all be decided in that last game next Monday night.

I don’t blame the rest of the league for being nervous. Who would want to play against the former champs after they discombobulated the best team in the league last night?

There can only be one winner and in the past 10 years one team has dominated. All other teams beware.

Although the format for the tournament is not ideal, I think it should make for some fun match-ups. I would rather see all the leagues move to a double knock out. I guess I will just have to wait until next year.

Good luck to everyone!

Since all the teams have now played 25 games this year, we can officially conclude another great season. In the race for late September glory, there are still plenty of possible winners.
This season DST, Wing It, Grocer, Travel Lovers and Crupilaw were the big winners. Those are the top five teams based over the season. Don’t think of the Crupilaw as just another team — they have awesome outfielders and also happen to have the best record in baseball. The Village Grocer boys are enjoying their time in the sun after years of playing awful ball, and fans of Travel Lovers are overjoyed (if not a little shocked) by the prowess of their lineup.
DST displayed very few surprises, sitting pretty at the top of the runs scored and second with runs against. They are an all round potent team. This season has its share of strange developments. Wing It demonstrated brilliants with the gloves and won their division on the last night of the season.
There is no greater disappointment than the pain being felt in Nvision/Ed land these days. The division champions are beset with errors troubles and something you might call “whiff syndrome”. Two other teams that are playing surprisingly bad are the Stephen Tar and DBS. The 2010 champions last season hit the bottom of the division and pretty much just sat there all year. When you make lots of errors, you’re going to be a basement dweller like DBS. As for Bistro, they are under .500 again this year. There are no players like the Bistro boys, who are still waiting for that championship.
In the spirit of the guessing, here are my predictions.

CONY Championship — Harding over Kelsey’s.

League Championship: Plumbers vs. Harding. I say it will be a tough game and a great contest.

Then we will not give a cony team the chance to make it to the finals.

A cony team will win this thing because of the post above it is "bulletin board material".

Reading these predications again, I really don't think some people have a sniff. Anyhow... others can take a look and write more nonsense.

Good luck to all during the weekend.

Griffith to fly over the Wings.

C'mon, do you really believe yourself? You had 5 chances at winning a game to get in the last couple of years and couldn't pull out a sigle victory to complete the task at hand. Now you're showing up on the weekend and sweeping 4 on Sunday when it matters most? I have 2 things to say "show me, don't tell me".... and "who's sniffing what?"

Cheers !

Like a fart in a smart car bad!

Hope you didn't bet the farm on them!

I am putting out an All Points Bulletin on corkscrew because we haven't heard from him at all with his characteristic rhymes from a year ago. If anyone sees him please tell him it's "OKAY".
