| Another great year is complete. We had a great summer season, a great playoff weekend, and new exciting champions. There weren't any major problems and the league was very competitive.
It's time to start thinking about 2011.
I would like to open this tread to discuss any rules that need clarifying for next year or any other issues that you would like examined.

| Here are a few topics I’d like to discuss for 2011:
1.Increase the size of the home plate mat. I think it would help decrease walks. Subsequently speeding up the game.
2.Amend the father/son rule by adding a brother/brother rule.

| 1. Speeding up the game isn't an issue - I don't think we played one game this year that was cut off due to time.
2. Brother/Brother rule could ruin the competitive balance. The reason the father son rule works is because there isn't much of a competitive advantage because the father is typically 50+. Having a skilled son is offset by dad being in the twilight of his career.
Having two skilled brothers being placed on the same team automatically isn't right. My team (ARMS) drafted Derek Bowen in the A draft. If brothers want to play together, there are certainly ways to do so - but automatic placement isn't necessary.
I would also argue that playing with your brother isn't as special as playing with your father. Brother's typically grow up playing sports together. Slo-Pitch is one of the only sports where fathers/sons can play on the same team and be competitive. There is a very small window in which it is actually possible to play with your dad - that's why automatic placement is necessary.

| 1. I still think the size of the mat should be increased. What about my point about walks? Do you enjoy watching the opposite team walk when a pitcher is struggling? This suggestion will help reduce that scenario. 2. Half of the league already thinks a brother rule exists. Lets allow it and avoid the unnecessary confusion. 3. We should review the 7 inning rule. I prefer to play until time runs out.

| Why don't we make a fifth base too cause with all the walks god knows we could use it. On a serious note if your teams pitcher is walking an irregular amount of batters then maybe the pitchers the problem and not the mat! The mat is fine and I would also vote down a brother rule as the infamous Killer Tinos has made some great points which I agree with. The game isn't broken, the best team won now let's crank it up again and look forward to next year!

| Just don't pitch to Pauly...send him down every time! See how well that goes over. A third level to the fence at Crosby may (and I say may) add an interesting element to the game. We need a bigger park - well some guys do - where the HR rule won't be a factor. No one, including myself, wants to give up Crosy. I always argued no HR rule was necessary for Ashton - if you hit it out there you deserve it to count for a full round trip. Problem is we can't find a suitable, larger park just yet.

| Hey Crupi was there in the finals and after it is all said and done we were happy to get back to the final game of the season. Something that apparently you can not say. There was no team that was going to beat the ARMS on that day despite how good you think you are. So go out and practise your hitting, running and catching so you can get as good as Crupi has consistantly been over the last 4 years. I have played with this team for over 20 years and have only been in the coney division twice and we won it 1 of those times. So remember the next time you play Crupi you will probably be on the losing side.

| All of us on the Arms knew that there was no apology coming from that individual. There are people in the league that play hard and leave it out on the field, which is fine. But making the attempt at laying a shoulder into a 60 year old man is down right disgusting. Although, I think I would have enjoyed if no one held back the Bowen boys after Cookie made that childish act. I honestly think that was the TSN turning point for us. Having that loser bum perform that act was like waving a red flag in front of a bull. The bull being the young studs of the Unionville Arms.
I'm glad your team has done so well over the past 20 plus years. Maybe if you didn't act like a little leaguer you wouldn't have cost your team your first Championship.
Thanks for the extra motivation Cookie.... BIG RED MACHINE!!!!!

At least when you finish 2nd, you know you have a shot the following year. Finishing 3rd last means you hope to climb 5 spots to make the championship side..which can only happen with a few good draft picks and the right players not returning.
Sad to say, but it's going to be a long off season for ya.

There are teams however who are consistently there in the mix year in and year out, like Wing It and Crupi and DST.
In my humble opinion, it will be one of these last 3 teams who will win it all in 2011.

So Griffer, stir up all the BS you want, but until you put on a glove and actually play a game, stick a sock in it! Yes, I agree with the retort to Griffer's bold comment, it is defense that wins games in the regular season and in the playoffs. Indeed we have made two strong additions to our team that will make us more competitive. But having seen the draft prospects and knowing the scope of this league, it is likely that all of the USPL teams will make improvements and make the league even more competitive. Play ball!!

| I think this whole "ringer" rule is just plain sad. It allows the teams drafting late to by-pass an A draft player and bring aboard the superstar of their choice. We didn't advertise as we have in the past looking for new recruits and this rule is still premature considering there are 2 weeks left prior to the season. It's an unprecedented decision in what used to be a Gentleman's League... if you want to bash me for saying this, go ahead. I'm entitled to my opinion. Hopefully you have the balls to put your name to your post.

| I agree with you too, HP. What burns my behind even more is that some of these ringers don’t even meet the residency requirements of our league.
You’ll recall, Harry, that many years ago (don’t want to say how many because it might reveal your age!), you yourself were a ringer in this league. The league cracked down, and because of that you were suspended and your team forfeited all the games in which you played. Harsh punishment, to be sure, but rules are rules.
Now we’ve got guys taking advantage of declining enrollment to get their brother from Aurora or their co-worker from Mississauga, or their best friend from Scarborough into the league. Depending on how many guys sign up, those guys MAY even be taking the spots of true tax-paying Unionville/Markham residents. It’s not fair, and it’s not what our league is about.
Anyway, that’s my two cents.
