| THIS IS FROM THE SPN RULE BOOK. SPN IS probably the largest governing body of slopitch in Canada
B. When a fair batted fly ball deflects off a defensive player over the home run fence, the batter-baserunner will be awarded four (4) bases. This will not be considered the same as an over the fence home run.

| Did such an instance occur in your game and get ruled incorrectly? Our umpires are well aware of this rule that features Jose Conseco in a Jays uniform over and over again in the highlight reels. That's why guys yell "let it go" or "don't touch it" if it's going to be a difficult catch and the team's already plus 2. If the team was plus 2, it is not considered a walk (1 base for the batter with no advancement of base runners unless 1st base is occupied) It's scored a 4 base error and does not count as a HR.

| Chris is correct as usual. It is a 4-base award, not a HR. I can’t really see it happening at Crosby, but it could happen at Milliken #4 or #5. It can be a tough call for an umpire 250 feet away, especially with poor lighting in the outfield, but we all know the rule.
Any time a situation comes up and you’d like to discuss it, please feel free to talk to any of the umpires before or after any game. We’ll be glad to explain things as best we can.

| Happened to me last year in a playoff game against Kelsey's...they were plus 2 as well and had 2 men on...FYI...we lost by 3 runs...But I reached over the fence and tried to pull it in...allegedly...I touched it with my glove...hmmmm

| The door has now been opened up for some underhanded things that could possibly occur.

| Ya, ok... if you're good enough to mess with a long fly ball, on the dead run, that far away from the plate and coerce it over the fence, then just catch the ball and take the out fool !

| Rayovac...nothing "underhanded" could possibly occur...unless you've got money on your opponent and you decide to let it hit your glove a go over the fence for 4 bases. A smart OF will let the ball go if they're not confident about making the catch or if there is a SAC situation providing the winning run.

| The correct thing to do here is get rid of the homerun rule. I've seen controversy over whether it's a 4 base error vs it's a HR and I've seen controversy over what the HR count is. It'll be like killing two birds with one stone. Let's vote this rule out the next AGM.

| Once the fence at Crosby is extended, you might have a few backers of your idea for next season. Can't change anything this season though. To take a phrase from Raiders of the Lost Ark - " You must choose your HRs wisely"...well not the exact line, but you get the idea.

| Very well said Buddy, I don't think we treat it any differently then we always have, if the ball goes over the fence regardless of how, it has always been considered a HR.

| I think any HR that is ruled a single because of the +2 rule is brutal. I heard a guy hit his very first ball over the fence last night and his team was +2 in homeruns at that point. I crunched the numbers for 2009, 2010, and 2011 to date. The actual run difference is going up every year.
