| Hi Folks,
A few weeks ago there was a play at home and I would like to clairify how the call was made.
*A player swung and hit the ball...it hit home plate then went foul.Home ump called it foul and yet there was confusion by the teams. It was his 3rd strike and he is called out. *If it hits the plate...and rolls fair...the ball is live and the player runs to first. *If the player's swing has the ball hitting the plate and the ball then rolls foul, he is out if on the 3rd strike.Hope this helps.
*Good sportsmaniship and well played game by both teams.Good luck to all
*If the league differs with this ruling please advise us.

| Good reminder here, people always get this one confused but i believe u are 100% right. It doesn't matter where the ball hits whether its the plate, mat, batter's box, in foul ground, it just depends on where the ball ends up, fair or foul, or where the ball is when its touched by an infielder. Also if it hits the batter in the batter's box or while he's running in foul ground it is foul. If it hits the batter while running and he's in fair territory then he is out and a dead ball...

| That reminds me of the time I was umpiring a Ladies game. The batter fouled a pitch straight down, and it came right back up and hit her. I yelled “Foul Ball, it hit her in the box.” She turned to me innocently and said, “No it didn’t. The ball got me on the leg!”

| I guess you could summarize this in saying that technically the plate/mat can be considered "fair" territory. Because if the ball was to hit the plate and it be considered "foul" territory, then the ball would be foul first, even if it rolled into fair-play. Would this be a correct understanding also?

| I have noticed at least 4 times over the past couple of weeks, guys not swinging at 3 and 1 pitch and then telling the umpire, oh I meant to swing make the count 3 and 2.
In most situations I think guys should be taking courtesy swings, but if a guy forgets to swing or can't be bothered the umpires should enforce the rules and make the hitter take his walk.

| no person at the plate has the right to say "oh i wanted to swing" if you dont swing you walk and what the hell is that anyway you dont change the rules

| Don't make something over nothing, if a guy wants to stay in and hit proper thing. As a wise man once said it's a step above T-ball.
Plus it gives guys like the Griffith fab 2 more swings to hit home runs!!
