| Slo-pitch provincial and national championships, which for the last 24 years have been headquartered at Niagara Falls Optimist Park, will have a new home this summer.
City council endorsed a staff recommendation that Chippawa Willoughby Memorial Arena become the new home for Slo-Pitch National when they bring their six weekends of tournament ball to the city this year.
Weekend games in May, August and September will be played at roughly 30 ball diamonds throughout the city, including the Patrick Cummings Memorial Sports Complex.
Organizers were forced to look for a new headquarters after the Optimist Club of Niagara Falls sold the 27-acre property at Dorchester Rd. and Morrison St. to River Realty Development, which plans to build a subdivision of single-family detached homes, town houses and stores.
