I bought a new bat later last year that I want to break in. However, everyone always says to not hit with certain bats if it is cold. But I have never heard anyone say how cold to cold is. Could someone tell me until what temp. I should leave the new bat in the bag till it reaches a certain temperature.

Above 15 your good to go if you want to be cautious, if it were mine I'd be alright swinging it at 10 degrees and up. Also depends on the balls you use, old gold dots are going to put some strain on a bat faster than hot dots or evils.

The temp does not matter, swing away.

Most bats are not recommend to be swung if the tempature is not over 12 degrees.

Composite bats tend to be much more sensitive to temperature than alloy bats. Many manufacturers have their own suggestions on minimum temperatures that their bats should be used in. However, as a rule of thumb, alloy bats should never be used in temperatures under 50 degrees, while composites should not be used in temperatures under 60 degrees. There isn't a maximum temperature that you should avoid using your bat in however composite bats tend to have slightly increased pop in hotter weather.

The key to hitting a cold bat is.....
Griping the bat.....
If you bat righty, you will put your right hand above your left and opposite if you bat lefty. Grip close to the handle, but feel free to choke up if you need greater control.

Use this trick on those cold spring or fall nights.

The key to hitting is warm weather and cold beer.

Who wants to play in cold weather any way and why do people continue to use illegal bats ?

Does anyone know the section and rule number that states Grip N Rips are now allowed to be used?

There are several methods to break in your new bat. The key to breaking in a bat is simply to use the bat. Typically, batting practice or hitting off of a tee is recommended to get your bat game ready. The Grip is not legal buddy.

Make sure all of the new bats are legal, hurting someone with a illegal bat, may lead to a lawsuit.

Okay, so here is the situation I was just thinking about while reading some of these other posts, and as I am just getting into the USPL, there are certain rules that are difference from my old league, so I’d like to be clear...

In a league where there is a plus 2 home runs rule..and we will assume the other team does not hit any for this situation!

What happens IF!... I hit a homerun... that 1....followed by the number 2 hitter, he hits one out BUT he steps on home and gets called out... then batter number three comes up and hits one out! (yes I know my hypothetical team is full Duchess like players)... would the third guys homerun count or for runs or not...

because the way I see it is... we have hit one by batter 1... batter two has hit one but the RUN does not count.. however, regardless, he still hit a homerun according to the rules, just the run doesn't count! its just his stupid fault he stepped on home, so I think that that they should ALSO not get the run for player 3 hitting his homerun!

however what I think compared to the rules, is different what do you all think?

In the USPL, this strategy of stepping on home plate to avoid a HR makes absolutely no sense, since the penalty for hitting an HR when your team is +2 is a ‘walk’. But assuming your scenario plays out, the batter who hits the HR and steps on home plate is OUT, plus the HR counts towards the ‘plus’ count. So, a doubly-stupid stunt.

See you guys in May,
Jim

Does that have enough pop to hit them out of Milliken? Crosby is easy.

When you slow down, step back a moment and put things in perspective, you can realize that we probably average less than five dingers per game.

If you gents open your eyes to all the beauty in the world, you would be overwhelmed with joy when you yank a ball over the fence. Hitting a long ball is a special thing.

When you swing hard for the fences remember this. Self-improvement is the name of the game, and your primary objective is to strengthen yourself or your team's position, not to destroy an opponent.

It is a complete injustice that we give a guy a walk for hitting a HR.

That's for sure! A home run, when hit while your team is +2, should be treated like a foul ball.

Again, you didn't or shouldn't be, trying to hit a homer, in that scenario. The rule is there, to be a deterent and help move the game along.

It's a foul ball on first, second or third strike. Keep the ball fair and in the park or it's a strike. C'mon man!!!! How hard can that be?

Why do we feel the need to penalize someone for hitting the ball hard and over the fence? It is a rare accomplishment for 90% of the players.

The HR rule is driven by weak players who are jealous of the big bombers that can hit them out.

The nice weather today is making me think of what's to come. Slo-pitch and beers. Man I can't wait to hit bombs over the fence. I just vote against the plus two rule. How do you guys want to penalize someone for a good swing?
