| Slo pitch vs hardball.....I think slopitch is what you make it. If you are looking for a competitive sport after fastball/hardball then its great to keep the juices flowing. If you are looking for something to do with buddies after work then its perfect for that as well. I wouldnt take the comments to heart, I still hear chirps from hardball buddies about playing "skirtball". Ive met some of my best friends through slopitch and the USPL community is amazing.

| My men's slo pitch team decided to play fastpitch 2 years ago to see how we would do. We picked up a pitcher and played with our regular team and went in some tournaments. The hitting took some getting use to but after years of having Gold Dots ripped at you, our defence was far and away the best. A lot of the players played hardball growing up so they got their timing pretty quick but our defence won games and won us some tournaments. We would of stayed with it but the prizes for the tournaments were horrible compared to the money we'd make in slo pitch tournaments.

| There are A LOT of stereotypes and generalizations made about Slopitch and it's players...
Just a bunch of beer drinking "has beens" Which we know is not true! Yes there are some out there but there is also a massive competitive side to it that most outsiders don't know about.
Ignorance and Arrogance...Again yes there are some but the majority is a great expanding community that travel around the provinces and country playing ball and socializing with people game after game, tournament after tournament.

| it's been shown over and over again that ANYTHING can be pushed to a highly competitive level. but that doesn't mean that the vast majority of it is competitive, or overly difficult.
if you really want to understand why ppl make fun of slopitch, go look at the ppl that play rec levels. some of those ppl look like they need somebody else to tie up their shoes because they haven't seen their feet is 6yrs. and they are the ones batting 4th that the other team 'respects' and backs up for...
I know many will disagree because they do take slopitch more seriously, but I just can't. competitive slopitch is a weird idea to me. maybe because I think of slopitch as a modification to fastpitch as opposed to it's own sport. it'd be like watching a professional flag football league. I'm sure they could find some extremely talented players that make the game highly competitive, but all of those players are talented enough they could just play 'normal' football, they don't need the modification that allows less athletic ppl to play.
and I guess that's where I'm at with slopitch. I understand that when the 'big boys' get on the field, it's a very difficult game. but not because of the game, or the rules. just because the other team is insanely talented. so talented that it seems odd they'd waste their time with such a simple/easy game.
also, I'm a little confused, we are talking about fastball(like baseball) vs slopitch right? somewhere along the line is seems to have turned into a fastpitch(softball) vs slopitch thing. most of the arguments still apply, but there's definitely less chirping coming from fastpitch players(I think) and I'm guessing that's because fastpitch is already seen as a 'girls' sport kind of.

| Bottom line is that if you are good enough (can play offense and defence and have ball smarts) you should be playing fastball into your 30’s or 40’s. If you don’t have one of the 3 skills (for example: able to hit a 75-80 mph fastball, rise or drop ball) you should be playing slowpitch. When the reflexes, timing and speed start to go you should be playing slowpitch
