Please see the note below for our UIC Dave.

Gents regarding hitting a home run , we can start the walk off home run, forget letting the batter run around the bases
let the home run hitter get the ball.

That will teach the long ballers. Hit and fetch.

I've been in this league for two years and I have yet to be involved in a game where there were delay or stoppage issues with anything.

With all due respect, this is a dumb complain and a non-issue.

What's with all the disdain? If a guy hits a homerun, let him run the bases.

This is a good suggestion. Saves copious amount of time. Which could lead to more AB.

Another penalty for hitting a ball over the fence..... when will this madness stop?

What's the penalty? Just get the game moving faster. You don't have to wait for someone to go around the bases, have everyone come out of the dugout and then go back in. Just put your bat down and fetch your ball. Game continues.

Why do you need to run the bases ......... it slow pitch after all ........come on boys no scouts in the stands..... this is a win win...... the game continues..... no one has to stand around and watch the slow trot around the bases

If you really want to run the bases there is no penalty.

Over the years I've heard rumors about doing away with throwing 4 balls for an intentional walk and simply allowing the batter to go to first. Then it becam a reality.
I can't help but think that we realize the intentional walk as a time saver. The need to run the bases after a home run dhould also be eliminated. As someone who loves the tradition and history of the game, it makes logical sense.

You love the history and tradition of the game but think running after a homerun should be eliminated? Huh?

A guy on our team hit a huge homerun last night (in a game with playoff implications) and he couldn't even get high fives from his teammates because he had to run to get the ball first.
The celebration of a big moment is a staple and tradition of this game.

Joke. What is this saving? 20-30 seconds? Give me a break. You want to really crack down and save time, get teams running out to and off of the field between innings.

For a great league that generally gets it right, they've gotten this one wrong by letting the fun police dictate a killjoy rule (three quarters of the way through the season no less).

I think I have to agree. I didn't really think this rule change was a big deal but we had a similar situation happen last night and it was a bit of a buzzkill. I understand the thought process but think it was better in theory than in practice and doesn't really achieve what's intended. There's better ways to save some time that don't take away from what can be big moments in a game. 2 cents.

My humble opinion is based on the old days when I could hit a long ball. Some days in a close game it may be warranted but in a regular HR game running the bases may not be relevant. It is the choice of the player.

we live in a democratic society, so I say let the individual player decide

Let's the people decide, I am cool with that. If I guy wants to run or not, no issues.

I absolutely agree with the spirit of this rule (if you feel the need to trot out a slo pitch home run you've got some self-confidence issues to address) EXCEPT when it's a game-altering home run in the last inning or two.

95% of the time I'd be more than content to run straight to the ball and just get on with things, but if I'm hitting a game-tying or lead-changing home run in the last inning or two the idea that you can't circle the bases and have a little celebrating with your team is a little much.

I'd like to think we can just leave this to players' discretion, but we did recently play a game (at Crosby, no less) where a team insisted on running out every meaningless home run so perhaps this rule is a necessity. All I hope is that come playoff time, if a home run really matters, we won't see any umps yelling at guys to "Just go get the ball". Let's keep our common sense here.
