| What do you guys think about this Ball caught in foul territory (even if it is strike 3) is not a strike as the ball never touched the playing field or foul territory, you would score it as a putout. Once defense made the catch resulting in an out. I believe the ball is now live and runners can advance at their own peril. I would think it would be no different than it being hit off the first pitch and caught in foul territory. Runners can still advance...
Again I could be way off... I usually strike out swinging so ... lol

| I can't speak to actual rules, but this is how it should be. What if it's caught on or near the line? Anything that takes umpire discretion out of the game is a better rule.

| My take on it is that in this scenario, if the ball is caught in foul territory, or fair and there are less than two outs, it is a live play and the runners can advance after tagging up.
If the fielder does not make a play on the ball, and it lands in foul territory, the batter is ruled out and the pay is dead and the runners cannot advance.
In this scenario, if it happens while you're in the field, if you know the ball is going fall, you always leave it, take the out... unless you think you can catch a baserunner in la-la land and turn two.
I could be wrong but that's how I've always interpreted the rule and way to handle the situation.

| This was the problem, it was caught right at the line and there was a disagreement if it was foul or fair. His feet was fair but glove was probably in foul. I think it would have landed foul but it was touched before it landed.

| I believe it's an NSA ruling only. It was explained to me like this about 2 years ago...the ball is considered touched and therefore foul before it is caught and a put out. Therefore if there are 2 strikes and the ball is caught it is actually considered touched first resulting in strike 3 which results in a dead ball. If there are 1 or 0 strikes then the same holds true, it's a strike, but the catch out is the result and the ball stays live allowing runners to advance.

| Here's a situation we encountered last year and I'm curious as to what might be the proper interpretation of the rule.
Ground ball was hit to the shortstop, and a runner was on 2nd. Runner held up enough to let the SS attempt to field the ground ball, but he missed and in rolled into the outfield. As the runner then proceeded to run by the SS, he very lightly grazed him, and the SS argued that he was interfered with.
As far as I understand the rule, once the ball passed the SS he no longer had a right to the base path...but is that the correct interpretation? The runner definitely didn't hinder the SS's ability to make the play, and he most certainly didn't graze the SS intentionally (he did his best to avoid contact altogether, but the SS's momentum was going forward after the missed play)
Our league's rules are fairly vague in that area, and trying to dig up any other online resources has been frustrating at best.

| No interference as he was allowed to play the ball.
If anything it becomes obstruction on the SS obstructing the runners path to 3rd

| Just trying to clarify someting, when pitching is your pitching arm allowed to make a full arm rotation (windmill) as long as you still lob the ball in.

| The pitch shall be delivered with an underhand motion and at a moderate speed. Any type of windup is legal provided the ball is pitched immediately after the pitching motion, there is no stoppage or reversal of motion, there is not more than one revolution in a "windmill" pitch, and the windup does not continue after the delivery of the ball. Any infraction of these rules shall constitute an illegal pitch. No pitch is declared if the pitcher pitches:
So I would say yes it is allowed although a bit of a **** move, but no less hittable

| The rules state you can use a windmill motion as long as the ball is delivered in an underhand motion at a "moderate" speed... Once started you cannot stop or reverse your motion though I've seen some funky variations that seem to stretch things.
At the end of the day, as long as the ball is delivered underhand and there are no stops or pumps in the motion it's a legal pitch...
Really these days I'm pretty happy if the ump can call a decent 6' and 12' as it seems a lot of the guys we've seen lately have rubber rulers...

| Runner is safe on 2nd starts arguing with the ump and gets tossed. The team uses a courtesy runner so the umpire doesn't give them give them an out. Is that the correct call? Wouldn't think it would be allowed.

| Even with double headers I assume the league will stick with 3 games. Therefore team 1 will play team2 (1st game) – team 1 will play team 3 (2nd game) – team2 will play team3 (3rd game) – or some such scheduling.
This means that team team 2 will be sitting out the 2nd game - I trust they will not “over indulge” during the 2nd game that they are sitting out because they do have to play the 3rd game.

| I want to questioning a rule in the Masters I heard last season. I was told that an infield playing on the short grass can not throw the ball to any base. And the rationale was that the league wants to "protect the runner". Now I wonder, if slopitch is basically about hitting - and let's be honest with this argument, everybody hits here, even the ones watching the game - why the league is protecting the runner instead of protecting the infielders that are basically "under fire" (even more, remember that we are "Master-aged"). but just to add another inconsistency here, one of the essential defensive skills of the game is fielder positioning, we should respect it and not eliminate it, let's play the game in the right way...if the infield is playing deep, then the hitter should try to adjust himself, find the way to pull the ball over the big open space and get ready to move his legs... show some skills buddy!

| Blackhead - actually, the rule is you CANNOT throw a batter out at 1st base – if he hits to the outfield grass. You CAN force a runner at 2nd or 3rd. I don’t know of anyone in the masters who begrudges a batter going to first if he hits safely to the outfield. The older you get the slower you get (surprise). There’s a lot more important skills than positioning….. show some common sense and compassion buddy. In youth we learn - in age we understand
