| Here is the usual procedure for rainouts.
1. The City of Markham usually sends out a notice to the permit-holders approx 2-3pm advising if permits have been revoked for the day. If revoked, we are not allowed to play. 2. If no City advise, and there is rain, then it is up to the leagues to decide whether the games are playable. 3. The decision to play is up to the umpires and if there are any executives on hand, and with consultation with the team reps. 4. If a 6.30 game is not playable, it doesn?t mean that the 8.00 or 9.30 game is not playable. If the entire night is not called, the umpires have to stay at the field to determine if later games will go on.
Thanks to Tony Chao for the four points.

| This is a summer sport. No one wants to stand out in the rain waiting for flyball and getting wet for numerous innings. A dirt infield will turn into a quagmire in a short period of time, espically Crosby. Batted ground balls won?t roll or bounce all the way to the fielders and if they did, they?d be mud covered and nearly impossible to field or throw. Having said all of that we could have waited and played the third games last night.

| If the diamonds were located on private property then the captains could decide. Since they are City property: - City of Markham decides - then umpire decides usually based on possibility of playability therefore liability If players decide to play, regardless of City or Umps decision, then ump should not participate

| Good point Jag in regards to the town. If I read and comprehended what was written on this subject, the really issue is the decision making by the umpires. The second games was defineyly rained but we could have played the last games that night. They could wait around and make the decision twenty minutes before game time.

| Last night?s torrential rain in Toronto led to major leaks at condos and city hall, submerged cars with people stuck inside, and trapped two men in an elevator that was rapidly filling with water. In Markham we got in all the games and did not get wet.
