HI ALL,
Hope everyone is enjoying the season..

PLEASE remind your teams/players/coaches to LOCK the talc boxes after the games .. they are continuing to be left open… Kids are getting into them…making a mess, rakes are missing, etc.

ALSO, reminder , there is NO alcohol allowed in Markham parks ! We have been finding a lot of empties left behind..

We are blessed that we don’t have to put in the bases. Most leagues required the home team to put down the bases and line the field.

So let me get this straight... We can go to the Moon, but I can’t put in a few bases and use a app on my phone at the same time? Cool.

Not wasting time and energy putting in bases is huge.

Here's a question that always tickled my curiosity. Why does the umpire not pull out the bases?

You guys are very spoiled. A privileged bunch that are afraid to get your hands dirty.

Just wondering how this play would be scored (statistically speaking):

Batter makes it to first. Throw was late, and first baseman missed it, but it didn't go out of play, and the batter is tagged out at 2nd.

Would that be counted as a single and then the batter is thrown out trying to advance? Is it just recorded as an out because it was all part of the same sequence?

We had a play last month where a batter runner ran through 1st base safe, then turned toward 2nd looking at the sky and slowly walked about 10 feet in the direction of 2nd, then started to walk roughly toward 1st.
First baseman tagged him with the ball on the way back to 1st, and the umpire signaled out.
My issue was that he went far enough towards 2nd that he had an advantage if he decided to make the attempt. Can I just look up at the sky and walk half way between 1st and 2nd and then assess whether I want to attempt at 2nd?

He had to have shown "intent" to go to second. Being a dumb ass and staring off into space doesn't constitute intent. lol

Its umps call on what he classifies as "intent"

The key word is intent....... most umps don’t see that so they can’t call it.

All of our umpires are courteous and understand the game.

We don't have a game without umpires. Please respect all game officials and set an example for young lads on your team to follow throughout their playing careers.
