The Park Boys Win Pitchers' Duel

The Pittston Park Boys used their best weapon -- pitching -- to get them the crucial 1-0 win over Saturday Crush in Game 1 of the 2006 BWBL Championship Series. Park Boys ace Bob Loftus went the distance, scattering just three hits over six for the win. Shawn Ashton pitched an amazing game for Sat Cru, allowing just one run on three hits.

Both hurlers struck out the side in the first two innings, and Loftus did as well in the top of the third before the Park Boys got the only run of the game.

In the bottom of the third, Tom Pisano walked to start of the inning, and following a strikeout, was able to score on a single by Dave Kane, putting the Park Boys in front 1-0, the only run Loftus would need.

Loftus went on to strike out the side in two of the last three innings, and despite Ashton's stellar effort, the Park Boys were able to hold off any threat and come away with the win.

Loftus went the distance, striking out 17 en route to the victory. He gave up just three hits and three walks over six innings.

Ashton took the hard-luck loss, striking out 12, while walking one and surrendering three hits for Saturday Crush.

Pisano was the key on offense for Pittston, going one-for-three with a run scored. Kane was the only other Park Boy with a hit, going 2-for-4 with two singles.

Ryan Hart was the only two-time hitter for the Crush, going two-for-five. Ashton also had a hit to go along with his great pitching performance.


The two teams would take the field shortly after to get started on Game 2 of the 2006 BWBL Championship Series.
