Pizza Bella Gets Come-From-Behind Win
After falling down 4-0 after two-and-a-half innings, Pizza Bella was able to rally for seven runs, including a game-winning home run by Gary Wolczak in the bottom of the sixth to take a thrilling 7-6 victory over the Bunch O'Swingers. With the win, Pizza Bella improved to 3-4, while the Swingers fell to 5-4.
The Swingers got the scoring started with two runs in the top of the second. With one out, Dick Noss, Mike Reese, and Joe Noss all had singles. Bill Smith then recorded an RBI groundout, scoring Dick Noss. Following a walk, Dick Noss would knock in Joe Noss on a single, making the score 2-0 in favor of Bunch O'Swingers.
Two more runs would come for the Swingers in the third, as well. Smith singled and later scored on a two-run home run by Dick Noss, giving the Swingers the 4-0 advantage.
Pizza Bella fought back with a run in the last of the third. Bernie Ambrosavage singled and would score one batter later on an RBI single by Kevin Sickle. This made the score 4-1.
After holding the Swingers in the top of the fourth, Pizza Bella was able to tie the game at four in their half. Ambrosavage singled, and with two outs, Shannon Claherty would also single before Josh would hit them both in with a three-run home run.
The Swingers got two runs in the fifth inning, thanks to three hits and a sacrifice. Reese and Joe Noss singled, and Rich Noss doubled in the inning. Rich Noss recorded an RBI on his double, with Dick Noss getting the other run batted in on a sacrifice fly, putting the Swingers in front by the score of 6-4.
Pizza Bella again would rally to tie the score following the fifth inning. Michael P. Stella singled before Wolczak would hit him in with a round-tripper. This made it a 6-6 game.
After shutting out the Swingers in the sixth, Gary Wolczak ended the game in the first at-bat of the bottom half of the inning. The winning pitcher clinched the game with his second home run of the game, ending things with a 7-6 win in dramatic fashion.
Wolczak (1-1) got the win on the mound for Pizza Bella. He allowed six runs on 11 hits, while striking out four and walking two in going the distance.
Wolczak also paced Pizza Bella with two home runs and three runs batted in, going 3-for-5 in the process. Ambrosavage also had a nice day in the box, going 4-for-6.
Smith (0-3) took the hard-luck loss on the hill for the Swingers. He surrendered the seven runs on 11 hits, striking out nine and walking three.
Dick Noss led the way at the plate for Bunch O'Swingers, going 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBI. Smith also added three hits in the loss.
Pizza Bella would hang around to play the Pittston Park Boys in the two o'clock game later in the day. Bunch O'Swingers will next play Mericle Real Estate on Sunday, July 30 beginning at 3 pm.
