CISAA Senior High Badminton                                                                                                                    

Events and Location:

This year, all events will be held at the ClearOne Badminton Centre (1853 120 Ave NE, Calgary, AB)

The following categories will be held at the approximate times (Concession will be open on location):

 

 CISAA SR HIGH CHAMPIONSHIP  

Senior High - Tournament 

Date: Tuesday, April 19th, 2022

Time: 8AM - conclusion

Location:  ClearOne Badminton Centre ~ 1853 120 Ave NE

 Senior - 8:30-11am

Intermediate -  11-1:30pm

Junior -  1:30-4pm

 

 Junior – under 16 as of Sept. 1, 2021

Intermediate – under 17 as of Sept. 1, 2021

Senior – under 19 as of Sept. 1, 2021

Guidelines

 

·         Each individual athlete may be entered in only ONE event. ($10/athlete)

·         Each athlete must compete in the appropriate age bracket as described above. 

·         Schools can enter 2 athletes/teams for each category

   

** A player may opt-up to play at an older level, but not a lower level.

§ Athletic Directors, please make sure your coaches and student-athletes are familiar with the rules of the game.

§ Round robin matches with pool of 5 or less will be one game to 13, capped at 13 (no win by 2), If pool of 6 players/teams one game to 11, capped at 11. Semi Finals/Finals – one game to 15, capped at 21, win by 2

o   Please note that scoring MAY be adjusted if needed due to time.

§ RALLY POINT SCORING shall be used, ensure your athletes know how to score a game.

§ Ties are broken in the following order: 

1.      If there are two teams tied a tie-break game, win/loss vs each other

2.      If there are three or more teams tied, the overall plus/minus accumulated by those players will be used.

A.     Plus minus within round robin.

B.     If needed, a sudden death single game will be played between losers of a coin toss while winner gets a bye.

 

·         Etiquette

 

§ Introduce each other before games. Shake hands after each game.

§ Spin a racquet/Toss a bird to determine first server.

§ Warm-ups will be limited to 1 minute.

§ Calls are made by the player on the side that the bird landed.

§ Call score before each serve.

§ No practice play on sidelines.

§ Attire should reflect school logo and/or colors. No club/corporate logos.

§ Walk around the courts between rallies.

§ Non-marking footwear

§ Supply own racquet

§ In the case of a no-show, the game will be announced, and after 2 minutes, no shows will forfeit.

§ Leave the bird on the court after each game. New birds can be obtained from the supervisor’s desk by turning in the old bird.

§ Winners must record results on the score sheet immediately after the match.

§ There is no coaching at any time during a game, the only time there can be coaching is between games

§ If conflict occurs during a match, the supervisor can assign a referee from another school.

§ Protests after a match will not be entertained.

§ First to fourth place finishers will receive points towards the team banner.

 

 

Shuttles:  We will use Mavis 300 green band birds with yellow skirts or something similar.

Tournament Rules and Administration Details

 

Guidelines

 

  • The IBF Laws of Badminton will be used, please refer to the following link: http://badminton.ca/Libraries/General_documents/Laws_of_badminton.sflb.ashx
  • Athletic Directors, please make sure your coaches and student-athletes are familiar with the rules of the game.
  • Round robin matches will be one game to 21 win by 2. Capped at 30.
  • Please note that scoring MAY be adjusted if needed due to time.
  • RALLY POINT SCORING shall be used, ensure your athletes know how to score a game.
  • Pools will be made up of a minimum four players. Top two individual/teams will advance to semi finals. In cases where more than two pools are needed, the top two will advance to 1 new pool. Top two from that pool will then play the final. 
  • Ties are broken in the following order: 

 

1.      If there are two teams tied a tie-break game, first to 11 will win (no win by 2).

 

2.      If there are three or more teams tied, the overall plus/minus accumulated by those players will be used.

 

A.     Plus minus within round robin against each other.

 

B.     If needed, a sudden death single game will be played between losers of a coin   toss while winner gets a bye.

 

·   Semi-final and final matches will be best of three, up to 21, with a two minute interval between games.

·         Spin a racquet/Toss a bird to determine first server.

 

·         Warm-ups will be limited to 1 minute.

 

·         Calls are made by the player on the side that the bird landed.

The following points are taken from the ASAA Handbook with slight modification

 

·         Athletes should attempt to compete in a uniform that distinguishes their school. 

 

·         When playing doubles, the uniforms shall match.

 

·         No hats, or dew rags shall be worn during competition or warm-up

 

o   Please note that players not adhering to the dress code will not be able to compete.

·         In the case of a no-show, the game will be announced, and after 2 minutes, no shows will forfeit.

·         First place finishers who wish to challenge public school winners may do so at the Calgary Zone Challenge on Friday, April 24th at Crescent Heights High School.  ONLY athletes able to attend Provincial Championships, May 1-2 in Lloydminister will be allowed to participate in this qualifier. (Coaches – Please make your athletes aware of this.)

 

·         First to fourth place finishers will receive points towards the team aggregate banner.
