ALEX HEUMANN GETS HIS SECOND LEAGUE AWARD.

MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa -- Junior left fielder Alex Heumann, who batted .688 in four games for the Mustangs, has been named the Midwest Collegiate Conference Baseball Player of the Week for the second time this season.

Heumann's week included a streak of 11 straight hits. After a walk in his first at-bat at Clarke on Wednesday, he singled in his next three appearances against the Crusaders and got hits in his first eight at-bats in Saturday's doubleheader versus St. Ambrose.

Heumann was 11-for-16 overall last week, with two doubles, a home run, five RBIs and six runs scored. He leads Mount Mercy (12-13, 4-6 MCC) with a .415 batting average and 15 runs batted in this spring. Heumann also has a team-high seven doubles and is second on the squad with six stolen bases.

NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its NCAA Division II National Player of the Week awards for the period ending March 6. Cal. St.-Los Angeles senior right-hander Gabriel Asakura is the National Pitcher of the Week.

Asakura (Sau Paulo, Brazil) had an outstanding start in the second game of a doubleheader against Cal. St.-East Bay. He surrendered only an infield single in the first inning and wound up with a seven-inning complete-game one-hitter. Asakura retired 10 in a row at one point and 15 of the last 16 batters of the game. He is now 3-0 on the season with a 0.69 ERA. Asakura leads the CCAA in earned-run average and strikeouts (38).

W C STORM Wins 2 at Lakeside Hi Sch. Beating ATH Grizzlies 8-7 on a walk off HomeRun in the bottom of 12th by Rich Seigel.In bottom of 9th down by 3 runs Storm bounces back with 3 runs to tie game to send it into extra innings on KEY hits by Jason and Adam Ochart to start the inning off.
In 2nd game vs So Cal Sklz, Vinnie Saint John pitched 5 innings of one hit ball and the Storm went on to Mercy Sklz after Garret Gooselaw hits a Grand Slam in bottom of 5th to put Storm up by 10. W C Storm wins 11 to 1.

Saturdays Home Doubleheader will be played at USC's Dedeaux Field in Los Angeles. vs ATH Grizzlies. Time Schedule will either be 11am and 2pm or 4pm and 730pm. We will try and confirm by Friday.
Sundays Away doubleheader will be at Cal St. Dominguez Hills vs Saints. times will be 11am and 2pm.

There are also Apartment Complexes all up and down Vanguard Way along Baseball Field, with apartments around $800 to $900 per month.
With West Coast Pro Baseball and X-Factor Baseball both in Riverside we are looking for Lodging in the Norco / Corona Area ( 40 minutes from Vanguard ) so you can use both facilities during the week. We will let you know.

We are working with the State of California and the IRS to get a Non-Profit status so we can get sponsorship, donations and do Fundraisers, etc. that way we can expand our Program to year around and to help cut the Player Fees down to a more reasonable amount as we are nearing $400 just for the Summer Program.    Everyone, this weekend is an opportunity for those of you Who have been practicing, to come and be part of my Storm College Team on Sunday June 8th Doubleheader at Downey High School. We play at 1pm and 2nd game starts around 4pm. those in the 1st game need to be at field at 12pm. Those in 2nd game need to be there at 3pm.( Remember No kids and wifes in dugout for these games, as potential injury will be high at college level with foul balls etc into dugout area.)

    Saturday We play at Cypress College vs the So Cal Outlaws.  see " Directions " on Menu. Game one starts 11am Be there by 945am. And game two starts about 2pm. Be there by 1pm if your not in game one.

    Sundays Games are at Downey High School. 1pm and 4pm start times. Be there 12pm for game One and by 4pm for game Two if your not playing in game one. We will have some of the Wounded Marines playing on our team in both games vs the Grizzlies.

VANGUARD IS NOT READY FOR US TOMORROW. Next Sunday May22nd is suppose to be still on. I am trying to get a afternoon (4 to 7pm )during the week before we go to San Diego for Memorial Day Tourney 28th,29th,30th. I will keep you posted.

THESE ARE LAST GAMES YOU CAN PLAY IN, UNTIL YOUR STORM PLAYER FEES ARE PAID. Please call Coach Rivera and explain your situation, if you need more time. REMEMBER YOUR FEES PAY FOR EVERYTHING THIS TEAM DOES.

With your fees you get a STORM CAP.We will also loan out a Team Jersey to wear at games. Both Cap and Jersey are RED. You will need to have a Red under garment for Jersey, Red Socks, WHITE baseball Pants ( if you have Stripe thats ok)and BLACK Belt.
SHOES can be Red or Black. if you only have 1 pair with school colors (Green, Brown, Blue, etc that will be fine) dont go out and buy new Cleats.
Catchers Gear can also be School Colors, not a problem.

WE ARE ONLY GOING TO CARRY 25 PLAYERS AND ONE TEAM---WITH A RESERVE SQUAD OF 5 IN CASE OF VACATIONS / INJURIES, ETC....10 TO 12 PITCHERS AND 12 TO 15 POSITION PLAYERS.

I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM SOME OF YOU YET.SO IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON PLAYING WITH US AGAIN YOU NEED TO REGISTER ON LINE AT THE NEW WEBSITE. MOST OF THE SCHEDULE IS FILLED WITH ABOUT 12 GAMES LEFT TO SCHEDULE. WE WILL PROBABLY ONLY GO TO SAN DIEGO FOR THE JULY TOURNAMENT. THERE ARE A LOT OF COLLEGE TEAMS HERE IN THE LA / OC / IE AREA TO FILL THE LEAGUE AND NON LEAGUE SCHEDULES. WE WILL PLAY IN PALM SPRINGS JUST ONCE, PROBABLY ON A FRIDAY. WE HAVE 4 WEDNESDAYS SCHEDULED AT 4PM WITH SINGLE GAMES. IM TRYING TO HAVE MAINLY SAT AND SUN DOUBLE HEADERS.

IM HAVING TO CHARGE $400 A PLAYER TO MAKE THIS WORK WITH 25 PLAYERS AND BE ABLE TO GIVE YOU PLAYING TIME. WHEN IM DONE WITH THE SCHEDULE IT WILL AMOUNT TO YOU PAYING ABOUT $20 PER GAME. IF I CAN GET A SPONSOR BEFORE THE SEASON I WILL WORKOUT SOMETHING FOR THE PITCHERS SINCE YOU WILL PLAY ALOT LESS THEN THE POSTION PLAYERS.
