Westminster Cheer is home to the 43x County Champions, and Fall 2021 3A West Regional Champions!

Westminster Cheerleaders are among the finest in the state! Over the past 13+ years, our teams have been able to accomplish the unthinkable. Always pushing the boundaries and limits of creativity, we have been acknowledged for our show-stopping and entertaining routines. Our program has been blessed with a large and increasing interest over the years allowing us to grow in size and skill. We work with everyone from beginners to those who have been cheering their whole lives.

Both our JV and varsity teams are extremely competitive and work alongside each other to learn and perfect routines to compete at the local, county, regional, and state levels.

FAQ's

  1. I have never cheered before, can I still tryout?
    1. Of course! Our teams are made up of athletes of all experience levels from never having cheered before to some who have been cheering for more than 10 years. We can teach you everything from the basics to advanced skills. All skill levels are welcome. A good way to prepare if you are coming in brand new, is to attend tumbling classes and open gyms to get a feel for our mats and meet others who are trying out!
  2. I can do multiple stunting positions, which one should I tryout for?
    1. We encourage everyone to know more than one position. The more you know how to do (and can do well) the more skills and versatility you can potentially offer to a team. We will give everyone to tryout for as many positions as they can do (ie. a flyer can also tryout as a base or backspot, or a base can tryout as both a main and side base). Versatility in stunting will help your tryout score.
  3. I am on vacation during one or more of the tryout days, can I still tryout?
    1. Please contact us directly for more information.
  4. Are there any required forms or paperwork needed before tryouts?
    1. Yes! You will need to register on the FamilyID site with a current physical uploaded before tryouts begin.
  5. Is there any required spirit wear or clothing that I will need to buy?
    1. Yes, there are some required items that each team will need to purchase. These may differ depending what team you make. More information will be available after tryouts and team placements are finished.
  6. I don't have any tumbling, does that mean I won't make a team?
    1. No! Although tumbling is extremely encouraged and very important to the success of the routines, we look at the overall strength of your skills and will place you on a team according to your overall skills.
  7. What is the best way to prepare for tryouts?
    1. CONDITIONING! Get yourself prepared before the season starts! Cardio, stretching, and muscle conditioning are the best ways to do this. Our routines are difficult, fast-paced routines packed with difficult skills and very little downtime... that means you need excellent stamina to execute all the skills flawlessly. The more work you do outside the gym the easier the conditioning we do at practice will be.
    2. TUMBLING! Tumbling is a huge portion of our score sheets and routines and is important for the team to be successful. Find a class and instructor that pushes you to get new skills that are not only more difficult but also develops your technique. More information on the local tumbling options can be found here.
    3. Summer Camp is another awesome way to get ready for tryouts. The camp will be run by our own program and will focus on jumps, tumbling, stunting, and motions. We will put together a short routine to show off to friends and family at the end. More information willbe shared shortly.
    4. OTAs are the perfect time to work on skills that are new, old, or maybe a little rusty before tryouts start. They are held all throughout summer giving everyone tons of chances to come in and work. OTAs run on an open mat policy meaning that you can work on whatever you think you need to.
  8. Are OTAs mandatory? Do I have to come to them all?
    1. NO! OTAs are not mandatory! We set up OTAs so that all athletes can have as much time on the mats and in the gym as possible during the off-season. They are highly encouraged but not mandatory at all.
  9. What is the practice schedule like?
    1. Both teams will practice every day after school (including game days) as well as Saturday mornings. Times for each team differ and will be announced before tryouts. It is mandatory that you are on time and present at every practice and game for the entire time. Cheerleading is a team sport that requires everyone in order to have a functional and beneficial practice.
    2. The attendance policy is as follows:
      1. Running late from home on the way to practice
      2. "I forgot my XXX and needed to go back home"
      3. Casually strolling into the gym after practice with hair down, shoes off, jewelry on when practice has started.
      4. "I don't feel well" - unless you have a doctor's note you must still come to practice, we will very willingly modify your participation if you are feeling sick.
      5. "I slept through my alarm this morning and missed the bus".
      6. "I just didn't feel like coming to school today"
      7. Not texting or calling a coach when you are going to be late- messages should come from you, NOT a parent. You are responsible for getting yourself to and from practices/games/competitions.
        1. Athletes that are late to practice, late being picked up, or have unexcused absences from school/practice will have the following consequences:
        2. 2 times will be required to sit out one-quarter of a football game. Athletes must still dress and sit on the sidelines with the coaches.

        5. Absences, tardiness, or late pick-ups totaling more than 4 times can be grounds for dismissal from the team.
      1. Unexcused tardiness and absences include but are not limited to the following:
    3. If you are going to be late, absent, or late being picked up, please let a coach know ASAP so that the practice schedule can be adjusted accordingly.
