16U Lions win the "Battle of the Burgh"

After losing the first two games on Friday, the 16U Lions battle back to win the "Battle of the Burgh" in Pittsburgh PA.

The rise to the top started on Saturday with a 6-0 win over the South Hill Devil Dawgs. In game 2 the Lions won big over Renegades Black 9-1. The final seeding came down to runs allowed and the Lions moved into the 4th seed to play in the finals on Sunday.

A Four RBI Day for Max Holzman Seals the Deal in the Lions- Varsity (16U)'s Victory Over #1 seed Pittsburgh Diamond Dawgs to move on to the championship game.

Max Holzman was an RBI machine on Sunday, driving in four on two hits to lead Finksburg Baseball Lions- Varsity (16U) past Pittsburg Diamond Dawgs 13-2 on Sunday. Holzman drove in runs on a double in the fourth and a triple in the seventh.

Pittsburgh Diamond Dawgs got things moving in the first inning. An error scored one run for Pittsburgh Diamond Dawgs.

Finksburg Baseball Lions- Varsity (16U) pulled away for good with two runs in the third inning. In the third Ray Woodward singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run and Erick Stranko doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

Finksburg Baseball Lions- Varsity (16U) notched four runs in the seventh inning. The offensive firepower by Finksburg Baseball Lions- Varsity (16U) was led by Holzman, AJ Delgado, and Woodward, all knocking in runs in the inning.

Adam McCartan got the start for Finksburg Baseball Lions- Varsity (16U). He allowed three hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out four and walking one.

Finksburg Baseball Lions- Varsity (16U) collected 14 hits on the day. Woodward, Holzman, Jeremy Chesebrough, Stranko, and Ryan Kilchenstein all managed multiple hits for Finksburg Baseball Lions- Varsity (16U). Kilchenstein, Stranko, Chesebrough, Holzman, and Woodward each managed two hits to lead Finksburg Baseball Lions- Varsity (16U). Finksburg Baseball Lions- Varsity (16U) stole seven bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Matt Annulis led the way with two.

 

Championship Game

 

Lions- Varsity (16U) was victorious over South Hills Devil Dogs, 6-1

They got things moving in the first inning, when Erick Stranko grounded out, scoring one run.

South Hills Devil Dogs knotted the game up at one in the bottom of the second inning, when South Hills Devil Dogs scored one run on a stolen base.

Finksburg Baseball Lions- Varsity (16U) pulled away for good with two runs in the third inning. In the third Ryan Kilchenstein doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

In the fourth inning Matt Reynolds drew a walk and scored after a stolen base. He was move around by AJ Delgado and Matt Annulis got the RBI.

Ben Morrison led things off on the mound for Finksburg Baseball Lions- Varsity (16U). He surrendered one run on two hits over seven innings, striking out two.

Kilchenstein, Mike DeGirolamo, and Max Holzman each collected one hit to lead Finksburg Baseball Lions- Varsity (16U). Finksburg Baseball Lions- Varsity (16U) was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Stranko had the most chances in the field with five.
