Prevention of Skin Conditions

Unfortunately skin infections are an all too common occurrence in the sport below are some simple things that can be done to prevent the the spreading of these germs. If we are all diligent in our efforts we will again be successful in the prevention of this.

1. Shower immediately following practice. Wrestlers should do this as soon as they get home. There are numerous cleaning products also available that are designed to prevent or kill the organisms associated with skin disease. Hair should be washed after every practice as well.
2. Wash clothing, gear & towels after each use.
3. Mats are to be mopped before each practice. No exceptions. Parents and wrestlers are expected to help with this and endeavor have the mats mopped prior to practice.
4. If an infection is discovered, wrestlers are not permitted to practice or compete until treated and cleared by a physician. Clearance forms are available in the wrestling room.
5. Wrestling shoes are to be wiped off on the entrance mat prior to stepping on the mat. Wrestlers are not to wear wrestling shoes on the street or anywhere else other than the wrestling room.
6. Street shoes are not permitted. Parents must stay off the mats or remove their shoes if necessary. All coaches are expected to wear wrestling shoes while instructing/coaching.
7. Trim nails frequently. The small scratches and cuts causes by long nails leave wrestlers susceptible to infections. Plus it's just not cool to scratch people with long nails.
