FLAG FOOTBALL PROGRAM – 1st and 2nd Grades
The Norwood Raiders Flag Football Program is a fun, interactive and easy to play football program for boys and girls entering 1st and 2nd grade. It is designed to be a stepping stone to our Football Tackle Program which begins in 3rd grade. We belong to the BCJFL (Bergen County Junior Football League) and adhere to their rules of instruction and play.
The Flag Football Program focuses on:
- learning the fundamentals of football
- becoming familiar with the rules of the game
- improving physical condition
- building teamwork and
- good sportsmanship
The Flag Football Program consists of two levels determined by grade of player – those entering 1st grade and those entering 2nd grade.
Each level plays same level teams in the other town programs that are part of the BCJFL. Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches are established for each respective level. There are no try-outs for any of the levels. All players are welcome to join and will be coached based upon their abilities.
Equipment will be handed out to players at the beginning of season. Flags and belts will be maintained by coaches and returned from players after each practice/game. Jerseys and pants will be returned at end of season.
Each player is provided with the following:
- Flags and belt
You are responsible for supplying:
- Protective cup/athletic supporter
- Football cleats are also recommended. (NO SCREW CLEATS) - Rubber cleats are allowed and many players wear multi-sport cleated shoes. Baseball spikes are NOT allowed.
- A drink for each practice and game.
The Flag Football Program runs from September through mid November.
Practices take place 1-2 times per week, as communicated by coaches at beginning of season.
Flag games are typically held on Saturday afternoons and last approximately 1 hour. Game schedule will be communicated by coaches at beginning of season and will be posted to our website.
We welcome parents interested in volunteering to help with our Flag Football Program. In order to assist in any coaching capacity, prospective volunteers must be approved to coach by fulfilling all of the Coaching requirements. Please refer to the Coaching/Volunteer tab for requirements.
